About HL Series - Lightweight Outdoor Headlamp
With exquisite appearance, excellent performance and wide-ranging output options, Fenix develops the HL Series with optimum weight-to-output ratios. Waterproof rating up to IPX-8 standard, the HL models pull high lumen output for outdoor hiking, jogging, climbing, camping and daily use, making you enjoy the real outdoor funs in various environments.

The Fenix HL55 headlamp offers four brightness levels plus 900 lumens burst mode and 150-hour runtime from one 18650 battery or two CR123A batteries. • Unbelievable performance

    From Aigars Jun 05,2016

Very bright and broad light. Excellent build quality. Light as well, don't need the extra over-the-head band.

High quality of materials. Realy stong white light.

  • Mr

    From lesbentley Jan 07,2016

Fenix make good quality lamps. The interface is reasonably nice. Quick click to turn on, further quick clicks cycle through 4 standard brightness modes. Press and hold for half second to turn off, or press and hold for one second to enter Burst mode quoted as 900 lumen, quick click exits Burst and returns to previous mode. The large button switch is on the right side, it is easy to operate, and gives a positive soft click when operated. There is no SOS mode. Because the switch is recessed, with its end level with the lamp body, it is less prone than some others to accidental activation when carried in a pocket or backpack. The lamp has mode memory, and this will even survive a battery change.

The beam has the widest hot-spot of any of my headlamps. It has spill beam that is brighter relative to the spot than my other headlamps, and a wider than average spill. Fenix say the beam is "neutral white", but to my eyes it is very much on the warm side of neutral. I like the choice and spacing of the modes. The 10 lm mode is good for reading and close work. The 55 lm mode is sufficient for safe walking on most terrain, though does not carry far. The 165 lumen mode is sufficient for safe walking on just about any terrain and gives a good view for a reasonable distance ahead. Then there is still the 420 lumen, and 900 lumen Burst mode when you need to see further.

The "self adjusting problem" with the head-straps on some older Fenix lamps has been fixed. The HL55 has an excellent head-strap with plenty of adjustment for even the biggest

Would prefer longer beam range. No SOS mode.

  • Great piece of kit - very versatile

    From White Knight Jan 06,2016

Bombproof - the housing is very well made
Compact - no naff battery containers hanging around the back of your head
    Waterproof (IPX8) 2m - a great winter light / caving
18650 battery fits lots of my other gear
Comfortable - with or without a helmet
Simple and easy to work; adjustable for angle
Whopping 900 lumens when you need a burst, good for safety; route finding
Decent battery life at lower lumen settings eg around camp

Comparatively heavy for a minimalist (115g empty,160g with battery)
5 lumen modes good, but a gradual mode by turning would be much better
Maybe being picky, but five stars from me if it had the gradual lumen increasing, a red option for night vision, and a SOS function if you were on your uppers, eg frostbite

PS Have not had long so not sure how long the elastic will last. Seems good though.
