Lenovo P8 vs. Onda V80: bestselling tablets battle
By GB Blog Official 2018-04-10 2841 1
Both tablets were featured on our Top 8 tablet bestsellers on GearBest in 2017 And both feature impressive specs and functionality for the price. In this post we take a closer look at both models - their differences and similarities.
Lenovo P8 ( TAB3 8 Plus ) 4G Phablet
The Lenovo P8 is your classic Lenovo product: simple, feature-full and black. Now, let's find out more distinctive features of it.
4G connectivity
With the P8, you get a nice looking tablet — or, rather a phablet as it comes with 4G connectivity. This means that once you have a SIM card in, you can pretty much use the P8 as a phone —a very big phone mind you. 4G connectivity brings a lot of benefits all on its own — you can stay connected all the time without hunting for WiFi any chance you get.
4 display modes
A nice addition are the four display modes: Standard Mode for your everyday tablet use, Kids Mode for the younger users, Reading Mode for when you want to use the tablet as a Kindle reader and Entertainment Mode for playing games, watching videos and more.
Performance
The P8 comes with a nice 8 inch 10-point touch IPS screen and runs on Android 6.0 OS. You have Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor running the show and a decent amount of storage: 3GB of RAM and 16GB of ROM. This should generally be more than enough for all tablet-associated tasks.
Gaming should come along pretty nicely as well thanks to the Adreno 506 GPU and the 10-point touch screen makes navigation very efficient, even if you are not hooking up external controllers.
You also get two cameras: 8.0MP AF rear camera and 5.0MP front camera, a nice set for video chats and snapping quick photos. The battery capacity is 4250mAh.
Price
The tablet is priced at $201.29 — which is quite reasonable, especially when you add Lenovo's quality components approach to the mix.
Now, let's unwind and enjoy a video display of Lenovo P8.
Onda V80 WiFi Tablet
Up in the left corner we have the Onda V80. Let's dig out more details about it.
Price
Priced at just $94.12, at the very first glance, the tablet would make a great alternative to those shopping on the lower budget field. Let's be clear: at the price of one Lenovo P8, you can get two Onda V80s and still have 13 bucks left over for some fancy ice cream. But what are you getting (or not getting) for the friendly price? Let's find out.
Features
The Onda V80 comes with an 8 inch screen — but instead of the 10-point touch like on the Lenovo P8, you get the 5-point touch. The tablet runs on Android 7.0 and is powered by the Allwinner A64 quad core 1.3GHz processor (compared to the Octa Core Snapdragon 625 on the Lenovo P8) You get a bit less of RAM (2GB) and the same amount of internal storage — 16GB. In case that's not enough, you have the option of extending it with a 128GB SD card.
There are two cameras on the tablet: 2.0MP AF rear-facing camera and 0.3MP front camera for easy chatting, Skype calls, quick photos and more. The battery capacity is 4200mAh — almost exactly the same as with the Lenovo P8.
Summing things up
Let's take another look at the two tablets side by side:
Lenovo P8 ( TAB3 8 Plus ) 4G Phablet | Onda V80 Tablet PC |
8 inch 10-point touch IPS screen | 8 inch 5-point screen |
Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 Octa Core 2.0GHz | Allwinner A64 Quad Core 1.3GHz processor |
3GB of RAM and 16GB of ROM | 2GB of RAM and 16GB of ROM |
Adreno 506 GPU | Allwinner A64 GPU |
Dual Cameras: 8.0MP AF rear camera + 5.0MP front camera | Dual Cameras: 2.0MP AF rear-facing camera + 0.3MP front camera |
4G , WiFi | WiFi only |
On the functional side, the Lenovo P8 comes with one significant advantage — 4G connectivity. This feature alone often brings the price of a tablet to a whole new level, which is understandable when you take into account the convenience of staying connected on the go.
You also have a faster processor, more RAM and a better screen — plus, the confidence of Lenovo brand.
The Onda V80, on the other hand, is a very decent option for those shopping on the budget market. You get the same screen size, a good processor, and dual cameras. No 4G — but then again, this is well reflected in the price.
The bottom line is this: we would recommend both tablets as very nice options in their price category — but if you are looking for all-in-one functionality, the Lenovo P8 is a definite winner.
