Learn to handle your newborn
The first step you should learn is how to handle your newborn. This is the basic step because your many works such as burp, diaper, bathe, feed are based on it.
Give your baby as much head and neck support as possible when you hold him or her.
Let the baby's head rest inside your inner elbow, with the length of his body resting on your forearm.
Be careful not to shake your newborn. If you need to wake your baby don't do it by shaking — instead, tickle your baby's feet or blow gently on a cheek.
Learn to feed
No matter you are going to feed your newborn by breast or bottle, you may be stumped as to how often you should feed her or him. Generally, it's recommended that babies be fed on demand - whenever they seem hungry. Your baby may hint you by crying, putting fingers in his or her mouth, or making sucking noises.
A newborn baby needs to be fed every 2 to 3 hours.
Your diet should be healthy and well-balanced if your are breasting your newborn (limit your use of alcohol or caffeine).
If your newborn was not fed for few hours you need to wake him or her up to make sure they get enough to eat. Be patient and take more practice.
Learn to diaper
Whether you're using cloth or disposable diapers, you are required to be a diaper-change expert. Your cute little one will dirty diapers about 10 times one day.
Get your supplies ready. You'll need a clean diaper, fasteners (if you use cloth diapers), diaper ointment (for rashes), a container of warm water, a clean washcloth, and some cotton balls or diaper wipes.
Take care of the diaper rash. Typically the rash is red and bumpy and will go away in a few days with warm baths and some diaper cream. To prevent the diaper rash, you should change your baby's diaper as soon as possible after a bowel movement, using mild soap and water to wipe your baby.
Learn to bathe
During the first week, you should carefully give your baby a sponge bath. Ask your partner or a family member who is an expert to help you:
● Undress your baby carefully.
● Use mild soap.
● Rinse your baby with cupfuls of warm water.
● Wrap your baby in a hooded towel and pat your baby dry.
Learn to find a good helper
Taking good care of your newborn needs constant attention, however, you can't always keep eyes on her or him. You need to prepare breakfast, eat, live and maybe sleep at the night. But your newborn may be hungry or cry and scream at any time. In this situation, a baby monitor is a must, it does lots of things for you. Your life with a baby will be easier and happier with it.
