How to connect Bluetooth headset to PS4 & Xbox One

There are many different types of Bluetooth headphones. Some offer a built-in microphone for your in-game chat, while others feature a special sound and gaming look. Unfortunately, not all headsets are compatible with every console. In addition, the Xbox One itself doesn't have an integrated Bluetooth module, making the connection even more difficult. To find out how you can still (in most cases) connect the devices, click here.
Connecting a Bluetooth headset to the PlayStation 4
To pair your Bluetooth headphones with the console, you must first turn on both devices. Then go to "Settings" on the PS4 and select the menu item "Devices". Now go to "Bluetooth Devices" and search for your device. If you don't see it immediately, start the search. This works by pressing and holding the power button and a lamp will start flashing. Now your console should find the headphones and display them with name and icon in the list. Select it and pair it with the PS4. This is indicated by a steady LED light.
Note: Not all headphones are compatible with the PS4. If they are not displayed even after the search, a connection is probably not possible. In addition, only a limited number of devices can be connected to the console. If you have already reached them, you must delete at least one of them. To do this, select the controller (or other Bluetooth device) for which you want to disconnect, press the "Options" button, and then select "Forgot device".
Connecting a headset to the Xbox One
Before: A direct connection of Bluetooth headphones with your Xbox One is not possible. You have to take a detour via your controller.
To connect the headphones or your headset to the controller, connect the 3.5-millimeter audio plug directly to the gamepad. The connector is circular and you'll find it on the underside of the controller, to the left of the crossbar.
However, this variant only works on devices manufactured after 2015. For all others, you'll need an Xbox One headset stereo adapter. Connect it to the USB port on the bottom of your controller. Your advantage here is that you can use the adapter to adjust the ratio of the volume of the game to the volume of any microphone. You can also adjust the overall volume of the headphones and turn the mic off.
However, headsets that are not offered by Microsoft may not work or not work as intended.
A possibly somewhat cumbersome way to use wireless headphones with the Xbox One, despite everything, is via a Bluetooth adapter. These are often used for car radios without a Bluetooth module. Insert the 3.5 millimeter jack plug into the controller and attach the Bluetooth module in an appropriate manner so that it does not hang down from the controller. Alternatively, you can also use such an adapter with your home hi-fi system. It's up to you to decide whether the additional device and its occasional charging will bother you. In most cases, however, the microphone function is left out.
There are also special USB Bluetooth adapters for the Xbox One, but these are rather bulky and also usually do not offer a headset microphone function.
