How to Fix Xiaomi LED Strip Not Working After Cutting?

By  Joe Horner 2020-04-15 2395 0

The Xiaomi Yeelight LED strips are one of the most versatile types of lighting available and this is not just because they are flexible. They can also be cut to custom lengths, which means they can be potentially made to meet the requirements of any installation, no matter how big, or how small. However, lots of users find that the Xiaomi LED strip not working after the cut? Why and how to solve it?

Why LED Strip Not Working After Cutting?

Due to their design, Xiaomi LED strip lights will continue to work even after they have been cut. This is because their circuit is completely closed at each cutting point. If your Xiaomi LED strip not working after a cut, it may be caused by the incorrect cutting method.

You can only cut LED tape at the CUT MARKS which typically are dotted lines across the tape and often have obvious copper bus exposed at the cut marks to facilitate reconnection (if applicable to the type of tape you’re using). Then make the electrical connection at this point. You can also make an unlit section by cutting at this point and soldering a length of thin 4 core cable connecting the + and R, G, B to each piece of tape.

So, if you are removing a section from the end of your Xiaomi LED strip light, always make sure you are cutting it at the end away from the connector. What’s more, you can refer to this LED Strip Cutting Guide to do it.

NOTE: If the LED light strip you purchased is uncuttable, please do not cut it, otherwise the whole LED light belt will not work.

If you accidentally cut the LED Strip in the wrong place, the bad part can no longer be used. All you need to do is to cut the broken part of the LED Strip in the correct way, and then connect it to the normal LED Strip.

By the way, if you find other situations that do not work during the use of LED Strip, you can also refer to this LED Strip Not Working post to check.
