It is easy to do this manipulation which can also be useful if your storage is saturated and you want to empty it completely to start from the beginning, a good spring cleaning. Before you start this manoeuvre, don't hesitate to consult our tutorial to learn how to transfer your backups from one console to another.
There are two ways to reset your Switch: one that offers a full reset, the other that preserves the backup data of the sets. We will start with the latter:
Reset your switch while keeping your data backed up
To reset the console software to 0, but keep its progress in its games, you must access the Restore Mode. Turn off your Switch and then press the power button and both volume buttons until you are in the restore menu.
Once there you will have three options: Update the console, Reset the console without deleting the backup data or Reset the console.
We will select the second option, click on the Next button at the end of the text and finally click on Reset the console without deleting the backup data when the console asks to confirm this choice.
The cleaning will be done and at the end of it you will end up with your Switch software as you did on the first day, but without having lost your ultra stuffed Link in BOTW.
Reset your switch completely
Warning: It is recommended to be connected to the Internet on your Switch to reset it. This way, Nintendo can separate your account from the system and allow you to use another Switch as your main system.
To delete everything on your console, including the backed up data, you do not need to go through the Restore Mode - even if the option is available there - since you can do it directly from the settings.
Open the Console Settings and scroll down to the Console tab. Also scroll down this tab until you find the Reset Options.
Enter this menu and you will find different options such as clearing the cache, resetting the keyboard or formatting the microSD card. Go back down to this menu to click on Reset Console.
At the end of the displayed text, click on Next and confirm by selecting Reset.
Now you have a fully formatted Nintendo Switch and you can reconfigure it as you wish.
