No Always On Display option on your Xiaomi phone after the MIUI 11 update? Don’t feel confused. AS the Always On Display feature is usually limited by the phone’s screen panel type, namely LCD or AMOLED. The MIUI 11’s new Always On Display feature doesn’t work on the phones with LCD screen. Now, we are going to show you a detailed list about which Xiaomi phones will support Always On Display feature and which will not after the MIUI 11 update.

What is Always On Display (AOD) on MIUI 11?

The Always On Display feature enables your phone to show some information or pattern even when the display is turned off. Xiaomi introduced the AOD feature on MIUI 10 last year. This time, with a rolling out of MIUI 11, Xiaomi takes the feature a step further, it brings many customization options and gorgeous dynamic themes including animated watch faces, ever-changing kaleidoscope and you can even type your own text like your signature or favorite slogans. Why is the Always On Display unavailable to Xiaomi phones with LCD screen?

The AMOLED screen and LCD screen adopt different technologies. The pixels in AMOLED screens emit their own light, which means that black portions of the screen are areas where the pixels simply aren't lit up. While the LCD screen cannot emit their own light and it displays rely on a backlight as the sole light source.

The Always On Display works even when the phone’s screen is turned off, however, the LCD screen cannot lit up when the display is turned off. So if you must run the AOD feature on the LCD screen, you have to always turn on your phone’s display. That will cause serious power consumption. If so, it’s meaningless to use the Always On Display feature.

Does the Always On Display on MIUI 11 drain battery?

For AMOLED screen, the Always On Display only consumes a small percentage of battery life,  especially when it only displays time and weather, so you don’t need to worry much about the  fast power consumption.
