OnePlus 3T smartphone troubleshooting guide

By  Sophia Windsor 2017-08-09 4163 3

Does your OnePlus 3T has problems with boot, network, charging, NFC function, camera focus, volume adjustment and other aspects? If so, don't worry about it. We are going to resolve them together in this guide.

Boot issues

There are two possibilities causing the blank screen:

The phone battery might be completely drained. Try charging your phone for a few minutes, and then boot again.

The display's flexible flat cable may be loose. Just take the phone to have the screen repaired. Or contact our aftersales staff for technical assistance.

It may be a kind of battery protection. Try plugging in to activate the battery. Then keep pressing on power button for about 5 seconds.

The motherboard may break down. Take it to be professionally repaired.

If you can boot the phone normally, uninstall the newly installed apps. This goes especially for any apps that control sound, ringtones, wallpaper, have fancy widgets, or use GPS. In most cases, random restarts are caused by incompatible or poor quality apps.

Use either the phone's built-in management app or a reputable third-party maintenance app to clean different aspects of the system regularly, i.e. Clean Master, CCleaner, AVG Cleaner, Glary Utilities, etc.

Restore the device to the factory default settings in Settings feature.

Note: Be sure to back up your important data first, as it will be wiped during the process.

steps to reset oneplus 3T

If you are unable to boot the device at all, reset your phone under the shutdown state:

a. Long press volume up and power button, the device will enter Fastboot Mode.

b. Use the volume up and down buttons to navigate to the restore option – select "Recovery Mode" with the power button.

c. Press power key to enter the Recovery Mode settings.

If even the factory reset cannot resolve the problem, try flashing the phone's ROM with the latest official firmware release.

Should all the solutions still be ineffective, it points to an underlying hardware problem. Contact the aftersales support service for a product return and repair.

There are two possibilities leading to the problem:

You may mistakenly press power and volume button at the same time when restarting. Long press power key for 15 seconds to power off the device. Then just press power key to reboot it ( avoid mistakenly pressing the volume button).

If the problem still exists when you press the power key correctly. There may be something trouble with the volume button. Please contact the aftersales service to arrange a product return and repair, or alternatively take the phone to a local phone repair store.

4G Network & Charging issues

If you are using a new SIM card, check to ensure the settings are correct for 4G cellular data.

Transfer the SIM card from your phone to another one to determine if the card is faulty. If you require additional help, please consult your service provider to reset the signal.

Make sure your phone's network frequency is fully compatible with both the local overlay network and the SIM card's carrier network. Otherwise, your phone will be unable to receive 4G network signal.

The 4G network signal may be weak, or there may be too much signal interference. Move to an open area (for example, a balcony) to see whether it is working.

Network settings may be incorrect. Go to Settings - SIM & Network - Cellular data - Preferred network type - Preferred LTE 4G.

If the problem still persists, boot the phone into recovery mode by holding the power button and volume up button at the same time. Then use the volume up and down buttons to navigate to the restore option – select it with the power button.

If none of the workarounds fix the 4G connectivity issue, a hardware problem is the most likely reason, e.g. a fault with the motherboard, antenna, network module, etc. We advise you to contact our aftersales staff for further technical assistance.

You may encounter such problem: the blue indicator light is on when plug in, but the phone won't charge. There are three main ways to help you work it out.

The USB cable and charger may have broken. Try using another usable USB cable and charger to check (the original USB cable and charger are highly recommended).

The phone battery might be used up. Charge it with original charger and press the power key for 30 seconds to activate the battery. After 2 hours, restart the phone to check.

If neither of the above ways works, your phone battery might be broken. Just ask for professional repair, or replace the battery.

NFC & Camera & Volume issues

If your NFC can't work, try considering the following cases:

Firstly, please verify if your IC card is NFC chip card. Only chip card supports NFC function.

Check whether you have turned on NFC feature. If not, go to Settings - More - turn on NFC.

NFC feature settings

Finally, rooting your phone may also lead to this problems. Unfortunately, this case is beyond the scope of free warranty.

You might encounter that the phone's rear camera can't focus. Check if it belongs to the following reasons:

The subject is too close or too far from the subjects being photographed. i.e. beyond the range limit of the camera's focus, so move your phone back into range.

The camera has set the macro mode, which is only for close up images, set the camera back to the normal/default mode.

The light condition might not be ideal, being either too bright or too dark. Try to shoot in areas where the light is more even and consistent.

The color of the subject is too single. Try focusing on its reference firstly and then focus on the target.

The worst case may be hardware problems. contact our aftersales service to arrange a product return and factory repair.

If your phone always shows the maximal volume automatically, please try the following steps:

Set the volume manually: Settings - Sound & vibration - Volume. Adjust the volume and check if it works.

If it is not the volume settings issue, just try rebooting the phone.

If it still doesn't work, power off your phone and then do a factory reset:

Note: Before resetting your phone, do not forget to back up all important data in your phone.

a. Long press volume up and power button, the device will enter Fastboot Mode.

b. Use the volume up and down buttons to navigate to the restore option – select "Recovery Mode" with the power button.

c. Press power key to enter the Recovery Mode settings: select language - wipe data and cache - press the power key to select - choose "Yes".

If the volume problems are still there after resetting, there may be something wrong with your volume key. Take your phone to the repair shop or contact the after-sales service.
