Take a bath? Take off your Xiaomi Mi Band first!

By  GB Blog Official 2016-10-14 14788 0

Xiaomi Mi Band is protected with IP67 hence it is water resistant not water-proof. You can wear it to take a short warm shower ( no bath no sauna ), wash your hands or have a quick contact with water.

Do not use it for swimming or diving, you might spoil your Mi Band capsule and void your warranty.

Tip: if accidentally damaged by water, cover it with desiccants to speed up the evaporation of water

Waterproof / Water Resistant

Waterproof means the watch can be submerged completely, can stay underwater for long and there won’t be any damage.

Water resistant is a common parameter to indicate how well a watch is sealed against the ingress of water. It is usually accompanied by an indication of the static test pressure in units of pressure, such as atmospheres, or an equivalent water depth.

ATM stands for "atmosphere" and is equal to 10 meters. Another word for ATM, commonly used in Europe is BAR - equal to 10 meters, too.

Water Resistance Classification

Although a watch may be rated 30m water resistant, it does not mean it can be immersed to that depth. The depth rating posted by the manufacturer is theoretical in nature and can only be achieved in a laboratory - which is impossible to replicate of real life. ( 1m = 3.28 feet / ft )

Water resistance rating

3ATM / 30m For everyday use, splash / rain resistant Not suitable for showering, bathing, swimming, snorkeling, diving, water related work and fishing
5ATM / 50m For swimming, white water rafting, non-snorkeling water related work and fishing Not suitable for diving
10ATM / 100m For recreational surfing, swimming, snorkeling, sailing and water sports Not suitable for diving
20ATM / 200m For professional marine activity, serious surface water sports and skin diving

Suitable for skin diving

IP code

The IP code, international protection marking, IEC standard 60529, classifies and rates the degree of protection provided against intrusion of solid objects, dust, water, accidental contact by mechanical and electrical enclosures. Published by the International Electrotechnical Commission ( IEC ), the equivalent British standard is EN 60529.
