When using iPhone or iPad for phone calls or FaceTime calls, have you ever had a situation that your voice is not clear, or is it impossible for Siri to detect your voice? This is usually due to a failure of the iPhone or iPad microphone. This post will show you how to check if your iPhone or iPad microphone is working and how to fix it if the iPhone or iPad microphone doesn't work.

How to test if the microphone on an Apple device is working

To find out if there is a problem with the microphone on the iDevice, you need to test each microphone. The location of the microphone varies from device to device, but the method is similar.

There are usually 3 microphones on the iPhone or iPad: Handset / front microphone, rear microphone and bottom microphone.

●Test the bottom microphone of the iPhone/ iPad: please turn on the Voice Memorandum and tap the recording icon. Speak into the microphone and tap the play icon to play the recording. You should be able to hear your voice clearly.

●Test the iPhone/ iPad front microphone: turn on the camera application and record video using the front camera.

●Test the iPhone/ iPad rear microphone: turn on the camera application and record video using the rear camera. When you play a recorded video, you should hear your voice clearly.

If your voice does not sound clear during a phone call, make sure your rear microphone is not blocked or covered.

If the Siri cannot hear you clearly, make sure that the handset and front microphone at the top of the iPhone are not covered or dirty.

NOTE: When testing your microphone, make sure that your iOS device is not connected to a wired or wireless headset or earbuds.

3. Remove all debris and clean the microphone or iPhone handset.

4.Restart or reboot the iPhone or iPad.

●On iPhone 6s or earlier and iPad: Press and hold the Home button and side button simultaneous until Apple logo appears on the screen.

●On iPhone 7/7 Plus: Press and hold the side button and volume down button until you see Apple logo on the screen.

●On Your iPhone11, iPhone X, iPhone 8/8 Plus: Press and release volume up button, press and release volume down button. Then, press and hold the side button until Apple logo shows up on the screen.

5.Make sure the latest version of iOS is installed.

Step 1: Open Settings icon on your iOS device - Tap on General.

Step 2: Tap on Software Update - Next, if there is an update available, download and install it as usual.

6.If after trying the above steps, your voice is still not heard during a phone call or FaceTime call, or if Siri still does not hear your request, please contact Apple support for help.

Step 1: Select iPhone or iPad.

Step 2: Click Repairs & Physical Damage.
