What if the LCD screen flashes?

By  Paddy Kounias 2020-01-20 1018 167

In the era of CRT, picture flicker is a very common fault, which is usually caused by the insufficient refresh frequency of the display card. Many users don't know what the refresh rate is, and the default is 60 hertz. Many users often use a low refresh rate for many years to figure out that the CRT screen can not flicker.

In the era of LCD, the characteristics of environmental protection, non-radiation and no flicker have become the biggest selling point of LCD. However, when using liquid crystal displays, some users are painfully found that liquid crystal displays that look good actually have flickering problems, and sometimes the picture jitter is so severe that it is not even as good as the CRT display. Is this the quality problem of the display itself?

The answer is not so simple, in the editor's use of the monitor, also found such a flicker problem. Generally speaking, there are two kinds of reasons for LCD flickering, one is the soft fault, the user can eliminate it, and the other is the real hardware fault, which requires you to send the monitor to the maintenance station.

The solution is summarized below. If you have the same problem with your LCD, you can refer to it and solve it.

One of the most classic causes of LCD flicker is phase jitter.

At present, there are two commonly used display signal inputs: VGA and DVI, in which VGA is an analog signal input and DVI is a digital signal (not considering DVI-I and DVI-A). Liquid crystal displays belong to digital signal displays, but in order to be compatible with old display cards, many liquid crystal displays are still equipped with VGA interface, and even many manufacturers have introduced a lot of displays with only VGA interface in order to save costs.

When the VGA signal is inputted into the LCD, the display card converts the digital signal into the analog signal through the DAC, and then converts the digital signal into the digital signal through the ADC of the display. After two conversions, the signal is bound to be affected, and the biggest problem is that the phase is out of sync with the clock. This kind of non-synchronization will cause the pixel jitter of the LCD, which is manifested as the blurred picture. After careful observation, it is found that the pixels beat regularly.
