At some Point, as a smartphone or tablet user, you will stumble across the IMEI number. But what is IMEI?
What is IMEI?
The Abbreviation IMEI stands for International Mobile Station Equipment Identity And is a 15-digit serial Number. They can be used to identify any Smartphone or other GSM or UMTS device. Dual SIM smartphones have two IMEI numbers.
You can use the IMEI number to do The Following:
● Find or lock a stolen mobile Phone: Locking a Sound smartphone via IMEI: Is this possible?
● Remove SIM lock from the Device
Note: The first Point applies only in Theory, since the IMEI of a Cell phone can be reprogrammed by Cybercriminals. Then you wouldn't be able to locate or lock it up.
The exact Breakdown Of the Numbers is as follows:
Paragraph 1-8: TAC (Type Allocation Code), which in turn consists of the Reporting Body Identifier (first two Digits) and the Registration Code (remaining Digits)
Paragraph 9-14: Actual Serial Number of the Device (SNR).
Paragraph 15: Check Digit
You should therefore know and have the IMEI number of your Smartphone or mobile Device ready in case of an Emergency.
Query IMEI
To query the IMEI, the way it is:
1.Call the following Number: * #06 #
2.Your Smartphone will immediately display the IMEI number.
3.You can take a Screenshot of it or write it down: Android: Take Screenshot – easily.
Alternatively, you can also find the IMEI number in the smartphone settings. Opens them and searches for Entries like Over the Phone and Status. The IMEI number usually appears in the Menu items. For older Ericsson and Sony Ericsson devices, you can also query the IMEI with the following shortcut: Right, Star, left, left, Star, left, star, left, star.
