Before the upcoming of MIUI 11, Xiaomi introduced an interesting and novel feature in the latest Chinese version of MIUI 10 beta. The new function is named as 3D Air Gestures. This feature allows you to easily open the application by waving your phone in the air to draw a letter M, W, C, or Z. However, the 3D Air Gestures can be only applied to Xiaomi Mi 9 presently.

How to enable 3D Air Gesture on Xiaomi phones?

Step 1. To experience the 3D Air Gesture, your phones must be Xiaomi Mi 9.

Step 2. Update your Xiaomi Mi 9’s OS to the latest MIUI 10 beta version (MIUI-9.6.26).

Step 3. Go to Settings - Open the 3D Air Gesture.

Step 4. Let your phone display the home page.

Step 5. Wave your phone in the air to draw the customized letter to open the APP. Presently, the 3D Air Gesture only support 4 customized gestures:

If you are interested in this new function and don’t have chance to experience it, you can watch the video below. (This video is from a Xiaomi employee.)

What Applications will support 3D Air Gesture?

According to the published video, the 3D Air Gesture only supports 4 Apps, but we believe it will support more frequently used Apps later and users can customized the gesture according to their using habit.

The new feature has been implemented in the latest MIUI betas distributed to Chinese users with Xiaomi Mi9. Probably the Chinese manufacturer will introduce it also for other devices and in the Global version of MIUI at the end of the month or later.

What Xiaomi devices support 3D Air Gesture?

According to the latest news, this 3D Air gesture feature is currently available only in Xiaomi 9's latest MIUI beta app, and may add this interesting feature to other mobile devices with subsequent system updates.

Since Xiaomi will end its global beta of MIUI 10 by the end of this month, Chinese MIUI users will be the first to experience the feature, while users outside the China may have to wait weeks to use it. Through the video demonstration, the 3D Air gesture feature is quite mature, there are no mistakes, so you can experience this feature in subsequent MIUI 10 updates.
