OnePlus, Samsung, Sony, Huawei or Nokia. Many manufacturers have already announced their intention to launch at least one 5G-equipped product in 2019. The first compatible smartphones are eagerly awaited and their release should set the pace for the news in 2019. Smartphone or not, more than 30 5G devices will be launched in 2019. If you want to be among the first people to own a 5G smartphone, it is to these devices that you will have to turn.
The Samsung Galaxy S10 5G
Samsung has introduced all its new devices for the beginning of 2019. The Galaxy S10 are numerous, between the Galaxy S10+ and the Galaxy S10e. However, only a particular edition will be eligible for compatibility with 5G networks.
If this Galaxy S10 has no particular name, we will call it Galaxy S10 5G, we know it has 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage space. Its display is also a little larger at 6.7 inches, as is its 4,500 mAh battery. However, it does not include the jack plug.
The Huawei Mate X
Huawei most certainly had the star announcement of the 2019 Mobile World Congress when it presented its first folding smartphone: the Huawei Mate X. At the same time, it is also the brand's first 5G compatible smartphone: its buyers will definitely be at the cutting edge of technology.
There's still one luxury device left. Announced at 2299 euros for a release in mid-2019, the Huawei Mate X will not be accessible to everyone. However, it is the most popular device of 2019, and certainly the most anticipated folding smartphone.
The Xiaomi Mi Mix 3
The Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 is one of the successes of this new year. The manufacturer had already announced earlier that a 5G version would soon arrive.
The 5G smartphone from OnePlus
Don't call it OnePlus 7. The owner of the Chinese brand confirmed that his first smartphone compatible with 5G networks would not be the OnePlus 7, but a whole separate range. And for good reason, the integration of 5G would increase the smartphone's selling price too much, while it still relies on its performance/price ratio despite successive price increases. This 5G smartphone should be on the market before May 2019.
It should integrate the Snapdragon 850 with Qualcomm's X50 5G NR modem. A brand manager even took to the stage at a Qualcomm event to announce that he would be one of the first to offer a 5G product in 2019. At MWC 2019, the manufacturer teamed up with Shadow to present a demonstration of a 5G-powered cloud gaming game.
A prototype at Sony
Sony was at the Mobile World Congress 2019 to unveil its new high-end Xperia 1, as well as its new mid- and entry-level models, the X LG's mobile division may not be in excellent health, but the peria X10 and Xperia L3.
Out of these, the Japanese manufacturer also presented its first prototype 5G smartphone equipped with the Snapdragon 855 and the X50 modem. However, it is far from ready and is not yet intended for possible commercialization.
The LG V50 ThinQ
manufacturer still wanted to be part of the celebration. As a bonus to the LG G8 ThinQ, the LG V50 ThinQ was presented at the Mobile World Congress 2019. The latter is equipped with the Snapdragon 855 and the X50 modem, and has the particularity of having a second detachable screen as an accessory.
The brand's first 5G compatible model, the LG V50 ThinQ should not be available in France. We will nevertheless remain alert as to a possible announcement, which could be made in the second half of the year.
An ad at Oppo
Oppo opened the 2019 Mobile World Congress, and took the opportunity to be the first manufacturer to officialize a first 5G smartphone... but half-word. Indeed, the manufacturer did not really present the device in detail, and was mostly content to warn that it would be equipped with the Snapdragon 855 and the X50 modem.
Oppo has also teamed up with a few operators around the world to facilitate the launch of this 5G smartphone... for which we know neither the price nor the release date. Just a little more patience.
The ZTE Axon Pro 5G
ZTE also took the opportunity of the Mobile World Congress 2019 to present its new smartphones. Among these, the ZTE Axon 10 Pro 5G is particularly noteworthy.
Also equipped with the Snapdragon 855, it should be released in China and Europe in the first half of 2019. However, we do not yet have any information on its marketing price.
Orange was present at the Mobile World Congress 2019 as an operator... but not only. The brand will also launch its first 5G smartphone in 2020, at the commercial launch of the 5G network.
AMOLED 6.47 inch display, 48, 20 and 8 megapixel photo sensors and a focus on artificial intelligence are the only information we have on the camera at the moment. Note that it is a priori built by ZTE as a white label, and looks like Axon 10 Pro visible above.
