AMD APU Ryzen 3 3200G and 5 3400G: 12 nm
By Linky Johnson 2019-06-11 1404 0
The announcement went almost unnoticed with the AMD conference at E3 last night, it is not even mentioned in the official press release of the event. But the manufacturer has unveiled its "new" generation of APUs with integrated graphics (Picasso): the Ryzen 3 3200G and 5 3400G.
Products that are long overdue but of little interest, especially under this name. Indeed, these are not third generation models taking advantage of the 7 nm engraving fineness, but simple 2200G/2400G with a slightly higher frequency thanks to the transition from 14 nm to 12 nm:
Ryzen 3 2200G : 4C/4T - 3.5 to 3.7 GHz - Vega 8 to 1.10 GHz - 65 watt TDP - 14 nm
Ryzen 3 3200G : 4C/4T - 3.6 to 4.0 GHz - Vega 8 to 1.25 GHz - 65 watt TDP - 12 nm
Ryzen 5 2400G : 4C/8T - 3.6 to 3.9 GHz - Vega 11 to 1.25 GHz - 65 watt TDP - 14 nm
Ryzen 5 3400G : 4C/8T - 3.7 to 4.2 GHz - Vega 11 to 1.40 GHz - 65 watt TDP - 12 nm
For AMD, this is logical: the Ryzen APUs have always had a name ahead of the CPUs. The Zen models (14 nm) were thus of 2x00G generation, the Zen+ models go to 3x00G. A bad practice that the manufacturer could have decided to put an end to for the arrival of Zen 2.
Note a subtlety for the Ryzen 5 3400G: it is entitled to a Wraith Spire fan (95 watts) rather than Stealth (65 watts), with a solder between the die and the heat spreader, but also the automatic overclocking feature PBO. A way to better pass the $149 fare (down from 2400G), compared to the $99 fare of 3200G.
It remains to be discovered the French pricing, but for that it will probably be necessary to wait for news from the resellers. Currently, there are 2200G/2400G for 100/160 euros. Availability is announced for July 7. Be careful when buying, you will need an up-to-date motherboard to operate these processors.
