AMD Ryzen 5 3600 is as fast as 2700X according to benchmarks

By  Ingrid You 2019-06-03 2557 0

On Geekbench results of an alleged Ryzen 5 3600 were published - single core performance clearly before the Ryzen 7 2700X, with multi core despite 6 instead of 8 cores on the same level.

A geekbenchmark score of a Ryzen 5 3600 has emerged and indicates great potential. The currently smallest Zen-2 CPU confirmed by AMD seems to outperform the top model in a single core comparison.

In the multi-core benchmark it should be on a par - and that with only 6 cores, 12 threads (instead of 8C/16T for the 2700X) and a price of 199 US dollars (excluding taxes).

Single-Core-Score better than 2700X

Via Twitter, the Ryzen 5 3600's two benchmark results, known for its hardware leaks, were shared.

On an Asus TUF Gaming X570-Plus, a single-core score of 5,390 points was achieved - previously, the 6-core in combination with an older Asus Prime X470-Pro scored 5,358 points in the same test - a Ryzen 7 2700X (not overclocked) usually scored between 4,900 and 5,000 points.

Geekbench 4 is calibrated on a basis of 4000 points, which corresponds to the result of an Intel Core i7-6600U @ 2.60 GHz. The score behaves linearly - a doubling of the score should therefore also correspond to a doubling of the performance.

6 cores as good as 8 cores

In a multi-core comparison, the Ryzen 5 3600 performs even better on the older X470 board with 27485 points than on the brand-new X570 board (26371).

On both boards, however, the Zen 2 processor in the standard clock rate achieves similarly high values as the Ryzen 7 2700X, which is still considered AMD's official flagship until its launch.

Due to the large number of Ryzen 2700X benchmarks on Geekbench, it is not easy to classify the results exactly, as they vary greatly depending on the system and clock.

Nevertheless, the supposed Ryzen 5 3600 performs very well in the single-core range.

Userbench seems to confirm result

AMD itself speaks of an increase in performance per cycle (IPC) of 15 percent - this fits very well into the picture of the benchmarks read.

Meanwhile there are also two entries on Userbenchmark. There, the 7 nm chip currently outperforms the Ryzen 7 2700X by four percent (effective speed).

According to AMD, the official price for the Ryzen 5 3600 expected on 7 July 2019 is 199 US dollars (excluding US taxes, equivalent to approx. 213 euros including German VAT).
