Android 10 Q: the Huawei Mate 20 Pro disappears from the beta program

By  Ponyo Hall 2019-06-05 337 0

The case between Huawei and the US government continues to have an impact. The Huawei Mate 20 Pro no longer has the right to Android 10 Q.

The termination of Google's license for Huawei, which prevents Huawei from accessing applications and the Google Play Store, has raised many questions.

While it was quite clear that the brand's new smartphones no longer have access to these services, questions were raised about the devices already on the market and their eligibility for major updates.

On paper, existing devices no longer have the right to Android updates if Huawei wants these smartphones to keep access to the Play Store.  Indeed, the giant can quite easily develop its own update based on AOSP, but the latter will not have access to Google's services.

The Huawei Mate 20 Pro was, however, in a special case. At the time the case was launched, Huawei's smartphone had already received a major pseudo update: the phone was one of the few models to access Android 10 Q in beta version.

One could then wonder if this smartphone already had a Google license for Android 10 Q, and if it would be able to benefit from the official update.

It seems that this will not be the case, if we look at the Android Preview program site, we can see that the Huawei Mate 20 Pro has disappeared from the list of compatible smartphones.

Despite the 90-day stay, the case between Huawei and the US government continues to have repercussions.
