Android Messages 4.2 supports sending any type of attachment

By  Adeline Belluz 2019-06-05 829 0

Version 4.2 of Android Messages has just arrived, and with it its share of new features. To discover: sending any type of file as an attachment and a few lines of text in the APK showing some future improvements.

Photos and videos, these were the most common files to be sent by MMS. But will that change soon? With this new update of Android Messages, any type of file can be sent, under certain conditions....

Any type

Any type of file to send by MMS, yes, but not of any weight! The Multimedia Messaging Service (the more you know) has a very strict message weight limit: 614 KB. So don't think about sending an entire album by message, but a Word document can easily fit within this limit, and this offers new possibilities.

Different instant messaging applications such as Messenger, WhatsApp or Telegram clearly shade SMS with their much higher weight limit. What may seem like an interesting breakthrough is limited technologically and proves once again that the heart of messaging may no longer be that good old SMS.

Verified SMS and Google Assistant

But when you say update, you mean decompilation of the APK! And the one done by Android Police shows us some features that should be coming soon.

First of all, the Google Messages application will soon integrate a system of verified SMS messages. Unfortunately, the lines of text discovered here do not talk about fighting spam, but simply about checking business messages. If the company is on Google's list, the SMS will be part of the so-called verified messages. But nothing is said about any protection against spam.

Finally, we told you about it a little over a month ago, Google Assistant will soon arrive on Android Messages and this version 4.2 confirms it. A line of text proves that the PDA will ask for confirmation to send a message from it. This may be a detail for you, but for us it means a lot because it confirms that the arrival of the Assistant is on the right track!

The Android Messages update is already available on some smartphones, otherwise you will have to wait or install it via the APK by following our tutorial!"
