AORUS NVMe Gen4 SSD: The first SSD PCIe 4.0 that can reach up to 4800MB/s?

A new filtration that in a way, is related to the new AMD Ryzen 3000 processors, which will be presented during the next Computex 2019. The first image of the AORUS NVMe Gen4 SSD has been filtered, which would be the first NVMe SSD to use the new PCIe 4.0 data bus, allowing it to achieve a file transfer rate of up to 4,800 MB/s. The AORUS NVMe Gen4 SSD will be the first NVMe SSD to use the new PCIe 4.0 data bus, allowing it to achieve a file transfer rate of up to 4,800 MB/s. Far superior to the fastest NVMe SSDs on the market today.

At this point, we all know that the new AMD motherboards that will mount the new AMD X570 chipset will be the first desktop ecosystem to use the new PCIe 4.0 data bus. We also commented a few days ago, when the block diagram of the new chipset was filtered out, that the new bus doubled the bandwidth available on the PCIe 3.0 bus. And that the two components that could benefit most from this bus increase would be graphics cards and NVMe SSD storage units. Only, until now, there is no drive that can take full advantage of this new data bus.

However, the first NVMe SSD that would use the new PCIe 4.0 bus has just been filtered out. It would be the new AORUS NVMe Gen4 SSD. The use of the new data bus and the new controllers designed to extract all the performance of this, could allow the new storage units to reach 4,800 MB/s transfer rate.

AORUS NVMe Gen4 SSD

Among SSD drivers NVMe the game goes on

Being a filtration, not much is known about the new AORUS NVMe SSD. The final performance of these new units will depend a lot on the controller they mount, as well as the type of NAND Flash memory they are manufactured with.

One of the best candidates as a controller that could use these new NVMe AORUS NVMe Gen4 SSD SSD could be the Phison PS5016-E16. In this case, we would be in front of a controller capable of handling 8 channels for the NAND Flash memory, with a file reading rate of 4,800 MB/s, while the writing is not far away, reaching up to 4,400 MB/s. Its performance in random operations also improves compared to other versions of the same manufacturer, reaching up to 900K IOPS, both reading and writing.

However, this controller would have an important rival in the Silicon Motion SM2264. This controller was launched during the last quarter of last year 2018, being the replacement of its top-of-the-range desktop controller, the SM2262. Not much is known about the features of this new controller either, but they will surely be similar to those of the Phison controller.

On the other hand, and already on the subject of the NAND Flash memories that would be used to manufacture. Something that users are interested in knowing, especially because of its durability over time. In the case of the new AORUS NVMe SSDs, it appears that they would be manufactured using TLC-type 3D NAND memory.
