When it comes to noise cancelling headphones, you can't get around Bose. The headphones with electronic external noise suppression are extremely popular among commuters and frequent travellers. With the Bose QuietComfort 35 II, the Americans are already delivering one of the best headphones of its kind - along with the Sony WH-1000XM3 and the Sennheiser PXC 550. In the new Bose Noise-Cancelling Headphones 700, they now want to have the noise barrier even better. However, the headphones themselves are not supposed to be a successor to the QC 35 II, but rather parallel to it.
Bose Headphones 700: Noise-Cancelling in eleven steps
The new Bose headphones come in a fresh look and are clearly different from the well-known QuietComfort series. The few control elements are striking: there are three buttons, one switches directly to transparency mode and stops the music so that users can hear an announcement on the train, for example. The second is for pairing with the smartphone. The music can be controlled with a fingertip and a wipe on the auricle. The third button for selecting one of the numerous noise cancelling levels is exciting. Yes, correctly read: The new Bose headphones come with a noise brake that can be set to eleven different levels. Interesting: Microsoft Surface Headphones offer exactly the same number. Bose also promises an even lower noise level than previous models. For noise cancelling, Bose relies on six built-in microphones that detect ambient noise. Two of them and two more in the headphones (a total of four) work as hands-free microphones. The quadruple arrangement promises improved voice quality when making calls. So there are eight microphones in the Bose 700 - just as many as in the Jabra Elite 85h with adaptive noise cancelling.
Bose 700: Siri, Google Assistant, Amazon Alexa
Thanks to the quadruple microphones, speech assistants should also understand the user better and be less irritated by ambient noise. The Bose 700 is compatible with Apple's Siri, Google Assistant and Amazon's Alexa. Alexa doesn't even require a keystroke. Also on board is the Bose AR, previously communicated by Bose in a very soft way. The manufacturer wants to use it to play music depending on the current location, for example. Nothing is yet known about the supported audio codecs of the new headphones. The battery life of the over-ear headphone, which weighs around 250 grams, is reported by Bose to be up to 20 hours - an average value compared to the competition.
Price and availability
Bose initially announced the noise-canceling headphones 700 for the USA, where they can already be pre-ordered. From June 2019, it will also be available in black and silver in Germany, then at a price of around 400 euros. Bose will then continue to expand its range of headphones and launch the Earbuds 500 and Earbuds 700 in-ear headphones with the new technology.
