Corsair HS35 Stereo review: Gaming headset from the corsair with a bargain price
By Fields Corrielus 2019-06-28 1642 0
Corsair, the brand with the three-master logo on the HS35, has a simple and simple but not necessarily boring design. Four colour variants are available: black, green, red and blue. The black version ("Carbon") is the only one that comes with a 3.5 mm splitter cable; red, blue and green do without it. However, the price is always 44.99 Euro, Corsair calls this a "combat price".
Choice of material and workmanship
Except for the headband, which is reinforced with metal, plastic is the predominant material used by the newcomer. The workmanship is generally good, even if the headset has little torsional stiffness. Due to the choice of material, the HS35 with 250 grams is very light, but also less stable. Especially the ear mounts should be sufficient for occasional use. For permanent use or frequent transport, on the other hand, there is little confidence.
The HS35, on the other hand, is convincing when it comes to wearing comfort. The contact pressure is well dosed so that the headset retains a secure fit even with fast head movements. The foam under the headband is quite thick at around 1.5 cm and also contributes to a comfortable fit. The replaceable pads filled with "Memory Foam" are, in contrast to many of our competitors in this price class, not covered with artificial leather but with fabric, which prevents sweaty ears and is a clear plus especially in the current high temperatures. The auricles could be a bit bigger, but they are still fine. The HS35 does not offer RGB lighting.
Sturdy but firmly connected cable
The rubber-covered cable is thick enough to withstand rolling over with the desk chair and is long enough at 1.8 metres. The fact that it is firmly attached to the headset and therefore cannot be changed in the event of a cable break should make the HS35 a disposable item in most cases. Here, savings were definitely made in the wrong place. At the other end of the cable is the four-pole, 3.5 mm jack plug. For sound cards with separate headphone and microphone connectors, the manufacturer includes an adapter to two three-pole plugs at least for the carbon color version.
Removable microphone
As is usual with purely analog headsets, the HS35 has only a few controls on the headset itself. The left earpiece can only be used to adjust the volume and mute the microphone. This can also be removed, and the open connector can be closed with a rubber plug. This means that the headset can also be used as pure headphones.

sound
According to Corsair, the HS35 offers a sound "without compromise" with a standard frequency response of 20 to 20,000 Hz, which is provided by the 50 mm neodymium drivers.
At this point at the latest, the buyer sees himself in reality despite all the advertising promises - even if somewhat different than usual. Usually the high frequency range dominates with the cheaper headsets and the lower frequencies are low. With the HS35 it's almost exactly the other way round: The bass range is already visible, but a good part of the high frequencies is missing, so that the tonal elements mainly play in the mid-range - which makes the headset sound tinny.
This is especially true when using the HS35 as a gaming headset: Due to the missing high-frequency range, the stereo spectrum suffers and thus the three-dimensionality, which makes it difficult to locate the action in games - an absolute no-go, especially for shooters. Since the sound component is enormously important in games in order to be sucked into the action, the HS35, in order to modify a well-known advertising slogan, rather spreads a feeling of just being side-by-side instead of in the middle of it. The system is therefore far away from a "large width".
But even movies aren't much fun with the headset, music shouldn't be thought of at all. As usual, the equalizer can help a little, but even in this price segment a headset should have a self-balanced sound.
