DJI is preparing a Mavic Mini, the end of Spark?

By  Niki Jones 2019-08-17 1139 0

DJI is known to iterate very quickly for new versions of its products. The last drone to be leaked is a miniature version of the DJI Mavic Pro, its future output means the end of the Spark range?

Mavic Mini

The site DroneDJ, used to the leaks on the products DJI unveiled at the beginning of the week photos of the DJI Mavic Mini, a small folding drone capable of filming in 4K. This (even more) compact version of the DJI Mavic Pro would weigh 245 grams, which is rather good news if you want to fly to France, you will not need to pass the mandatory online training for drones over 800 grams .

The battery will have a different shape than in previous models, and this is the first time it will fit into a closed compartment. Unfolded, it will be more compact than the Mavic Air and DJI Spark with dimensions of 140x140x53 mm. The information on weights and dimensions are contradictory, we must take them with tweezers. At the level of autonomy, 18 minutes are announced and obstacle avoidance technologies are involved. Wi-Fi would be, as on the Spark and Air, the means of control, which would allow a range of 2 kilometers.

A simplified range?

So we would find a model that would take the place of Spark directly under 500 € ($ 399 US), while adding the collapsible format, and raising the image quality. His exit could mark the end of the Spark, which would have no place in the range. We thus find a simplified range for compact drones:

● DJI Tello to play

● The DJI Mavic Mini to start

● The DJI Mavic Air for image enthusiasts

● The DJI Mavic 2 (Pro and Zoom) for semi pro

There is a very important element of the range with enormous potential: the DJI Mavic Air. Its only weakness today is the use of Wi-Fi to ensure transmission between the remote control and the drone, which is less efficient than the OcuSync. The arrival of a Mavic Air 2 integrating OcuSync with the same sensor could be very logical, and even desired by fans. It could be logical also at the price level with a € 100 Tello, a Mavic Mini under € 500, a Mavic Air 2 under € 900 and a Mavic 2 Pro under € 1500 (€ 1249 for the Mavic 2 Zoom) .

A video that shows the format of the Mavic Mini has also leaked:

The release of the DJI Mavic Mini is scheduled before the end of the year, we will know more about the intentions of DJI very soon.
