Osmo Mobile 3 is foldable
The main novelty of Osmo Mobile 3 is the new folding bracket. As you can see from the images, it is possible to fold up the bracket and holds the smartphone. The transport is simplify and makes it easier to use your smartphone without having to remove it from the housing.
DJI has redesign the positioning of the motors 3-axis stabilization. Now, in fact, ou to have all the space to connect the charging cable and the jack connector to use an external microphone (for those smartphones that still use it).
Osmo Mobile 3 brings some small changes. USB Type-C port for charging, and USB Type-A for smartphone charge by the internal battery of the stabilizer.
Light and ergonomics
It adopts plastic, which make the product weigh 105g. And the size is 157 x 130 x 46 mm.
Because the overall size is reduced, the Osmo Mobile 3 battery is slightly reduced to 13 hours of battery life. Osmo Mobile 3 also supports DJI Mimo mobile apps, and there are different auto-mobile modes, just as simple as Osmo Pocket, with a variety of different video capture effects.
Osmo Moblie 3 is very similar to theprevious versions, although there are some small differences. As the handle forms an angle of 15 º with respect to the vertical axis of stabilization. This facilitates a more comfortable posture and improves the ergonomics of use of the product.
Control has new functions
The controls remain the classic ones, so we find a navigation joystick that allows you to orient at will the stabilizer, the dorsal trigger to restore the neutral position, the recording button, the side lever for zoom and the M button. The latter is now enriched with a new feature, namely access to standby mode. Just press it three times to get Osmo Mobile 3 into sleep mode - saving battery power - and just do the same to bring it back to its last used position. Remember that, as on Osmo Mobile 2, you can switch between landscape and portrait orientation with a double click of the M button.
Compatible wit cameras
As for the software, Osmo Mobile 3 is compatible with the DJI Mimo application for the use of the classic additional functions, such as automatic tracking of the subject (requires the tripod) and much more. DJI has chosen to allow the use of the basic functions of the stabilizer (start/stop shooting, photo shooting and zoom management) directly from the stock apps of the main terminals.
DJI explained that the reason for this choice lies in the fact that more and more smartphones have 2, 3, 4 or even 5 cameras, all with very different functions. So, rather than making the Mimo app compatible by adapting it to each device, DJI has chosen to make Osmo Mobile 3 compatible with the native applications of the main smartphones (we wait for the compatibility list), so that the user can take advantage of the sensor he prefers, controlling it through the commands placed on Osmo.
Price and availability
While Osmo Mobile 2 could be launched for less than half the cost of the first generation, the Chinese company placed an even lower value on this version. The Osmo Mobile 3 costs from $119 (compared to $129 for the second generation and $299 for the first model). There is a regular version of $119 and a set version of $139, which will include a tripod and an accompanying box.
