Facebook Catalina TV chat device: release date, features and so on

According to documents obtained by The Information and two people familiar with the matter, Facebook's device, codenamed "Catalina," will use Portal's video calling technology. Portal is Facebook's previous smart speaker device with a screen. The device, like set-top boxes such as Apple TV, will be equipped with physical remote control, as well as video streaming services. 

Facebook is in talks with Netflix, Disney, Hulu, HBO and Amazon to bring their video streaming services to new devices. The Information said it was not clear about the specific progress of Facebook's talks with the media companies.

Last year, there were media reports that Facebook planned to launch devices connected to televisions. "Catalina" will quit this fall.
