Galaxy XCover 4S: Samsung may soon unveil a new Xcover
By Felicity Rosa 2019-05-30 875 0
Since the beginning of the year, Samsung has focused commercially on three main topics. The Galaxy Fold, which has some problems that require some last-minute adjustments. The Galaxy S with a tenth harvest consisting of four very interesting (but also very expensive) terminals. The Galaxy A, which has no less than ten different models (but not all of which are available everywhere in the world). A range that makes the big difference between the low cost Galaxy A10 and the premium Galaxy A80.
Renewal every two years
While all eyes are now on the next Galaxy Note, which should be released in August, if the company keeps to its usual schedule, other terminals will be used to bring the Korean brand's news to life in the meantime. Other terminals that are not necessarily all expected, but which will complete its catalogue by filling the few niches where it has not renewed its offer. We are thinking in particular of rugged smartphones.
According to the Dutch website Galaxy Club, this small market segment could be launched in the coming weeks with the return of the Xcover range. As a reminder, this family includes mid-range rugged mobile phones. They therefore accompany the Galaxy Sx Active that Samsung used to unveil in the spring, a few months with the more traditional flagships, but that it has not renewed since the S8 Active in 2017. It was also in 2017 that Samsung unveiled the Xcover 4, the latest Xcover to date.
Positioned below 250 euros
Two years between Xcover 4 and the new Xcover of 2019, as between Xcover 3 and Xcover and as between Xcover 2 and Xcover 3. So there is a certain logic. According to Galaxy Club, the serial number of this smartphone is SM-G398. And its trade name will be Xcover 4S, not Xcover 5, which could indicate that it is only a technical update and not a very different model. The name of the phone was discovered on the Belgian merchant site Centralpoint, which also reveals a price: 249 euros.
Some details of the Galaxy Xcover 4S technical data sheet have been unveiled by Galaxy Club. In addition to a reinforced shell inherent to the range, this includes the chipset, the Exynos 7885, the RAM, 3GB, and the Android version, 9.0 Pie (certainly with One UI). The chipset is revealing. Octo-core model clocked up to 2.2 GHz, it now powers a few mid-range models: the Galaxy A7 (2018), the Galaxy A8 (2018), the Galaxy A8+ (2018) or the recent Galaxy A40. It would replace an aging quad-core clocked at 1.2 GHz. So there is a better way. Much better even. We still have to wait to find out the rest. According to the Dutch site, this should not be long in coming, as the commercial launch would be scheduled for the first week of June.
