Following an oral conversation is a daily challenge for people with hearing loss. In order to simplify their task, Google has designed two new applications that should prove very practical in this regard. The multinational describes them in an article posted on its blog.
The two applications are called Live Transcribe and Sound Amplifier.
The name Live Transcribe already reveals a little bit of his interest. It records the conversations around it using the smartphone microphone and transcribes in real time what is said on the screen of the device. In practical terms, this allows the hearing impaired user to never lose the thread of the oral discussion.
Live Transcribe is obviously based on voice recognition and the service is powered by the Google Cloud service. For more technical details, don't hesitate to visit Google's blog dedicated to artificial intelligence.
You should also know that Live Transcribe is officially in beta, but you can already find the application on the Play Store under the name "Instant Transcription". We were able to try it briefly and even if the service is still unstable, it is quite effective.
To answer the callers, the user simply enters his text by pressing the keyboard icon. For more efficiency, Google reminds you that it is better to set the accessibility options to be able to quickly open the application.
Sound Amplifier also uses the smartphone microphone and allows you to optimize audio recording by increasing the sound of voices and attenuating ambient noise. By wearing a headset, a person with a hearing loss can enjoy greater listening comfort and be able to concentrate more effectively on what is being said orally.
The application allows you to fine-tune the settings at any time and for each ear. This application is also available on the Play Store and is called "Sound Amplifier" this time in French. This is what the app's interface looks like once it has been enabled in the accessibility options.
In terms of accessibility, Google is making several efforts. We remember in particular the Voice Access application which allows you to use your smartphone without your hands.
