Google Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL VS Pixel 3:the differences explained

Here's how the Pixel 3a and 3a XL compare to the Pixel 3.
After tons of leaks, rumors and other information with greater or lesser credibility, Google has finally done what many asked for and others did not believe it would do: put two mid-range phones into circulation. The Pixel family gets fat with two new terminals that follow the pattern of their older brothers, with [a simple model and another XL](## Pixel 3a XL, our video analysis
The announcement was made during the inaugural conference of Google I/O 2019 which begins today, May 7, and what less than to place him now with his older brothers to see what each model proposes. But above all, what does it mean to choose the "little ones" rather than the "adults"? Let us look at the differences between the new Pixel 3a and the Pixel 3 that arrived at the end of last year.
We have already said that here we move in medium sands and not between high ranges, and this implies that sacrifices are also made in terms of construction and design. And the main one we run into is that the glass disappears from the back of the phone. If the Pixel 3 were crystal telephones, completely covered by Gorilla Glass 5, now what we need is polycarbonate and that's how the Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL arrive dressed.
So, we leave behind the glass to get into the plastic, although the protection is not lost on the screen but we change brand. Gorilla Glass 5 gives way to Dragon Trail. Protection but at another level, one of the tolls to pay for the less powerful and cheaper mobiles of the great G.
In this change of design also occurs a fact differential between the Pixel 3 and the Pixel 3a. If in the models that lead the Google catalog we find IP68 protection against dust and water, in the Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL this IP protection does not exist. Or at least it is not certified. So we already know that if we get one of these Pixel 3a, we will have to be careful where we are using them, lest they end up in the technical service.
Processor
Different mobile category, different processor, but we're not out of Qualcomm's catalog. The Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL arrived last year with the most powerful chip in the American line, the Snapdragon 845 that had debuted that same year. Hopefully the Pixel 4 will do the same this season with the Snapragon 855, but the first batch of phones of the year reduces the specifications and we go down to the line of 600.
Both the Pixel 3a and the Pixel 3a XL mount Qualcomm's Snapdragon 670, a highly solvent eight-core chip that clearly sets the distances between the two categories of phones. Yes, the 4GB of RAM are maintained to accompany the processor, although the two memory versions of the Pixel 3 become one when they reach 3a. Here we will only find 64GB, also without microSD, although we have other positive news.
In the Pixel 3a there is only one storage option: 64GB or nothing.
The main one is, perhaps, that Google's two mid-range phones recover the headphone jack. The second is that the batteries are growing. Thus, the Pixel 3a arrives with 3,000 mAh, slightly above the Pixel 3, while the Pixel 3a XL goes up to 3,700 mAh, a more sensitive jump if it fits with respect to its mirror in the high range.
Camera
It happens that little happens. There are few changes between the Pixel 3 and the Pixel 3a in photographic matter that, despite their distance in releases, belong to the same generation of phones for Google. So it repeats the main and unique 12.2 megapixel sensor with its f/1.8 lens and software features, although this time we do without the Pixel Visual Core, or that indicates Google in its specifications.
As for the front, we also have the 8 megapixels of the Pixel 3 but with one exception, here improves the brightness. If the Pixel 3 comes with a f/2.2 lens, the Pixel 3a bet on f/2.0 lenses. And as in previous generations of the high ranges, the two phones with completely identical photographic capabilities. Two mirrors, because their big difference is in the batteries already commented, in the screen and in the size.
We can close, in fact, by talking about the screen. Here we come across a Pixel 3a slightly larger than the normal Pixel 3, mainly thanks to its gOLED panel of 5.6 inches and its appearance 18.5:9, while the Pixel 3a XL bets on a gOLED of 6 inches, moving a little away from the 6.3 inches of the Pixel 3 XL. In size, the two models fit between their big brothers.
Of course, both maintain the NFC chip and other connectivity features we had seen in the Pixel 3, with the aforementioned 3.5 mm jack that is present here, leaving the USB port type C only for loading and file transfer. And these are basically the new Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL. We leave you next with the already classic table of specifications so that you can see the four telephones compared.
