Huawei and Google case: Aptoide stands ready to replace the Play Store

By  Daniel Camilo 2019-06-05 703 0

Huawei no longer has the legal right to use the Play Store for his future smartphones. Aptoide is ready to replace the Play Store and is already in contact with the Chinese company.

The US government has blacklisted Huawei, preventing him from using Google services including the Play Store and major Android updates. A hard blow that caused the Huawei Mate 20 Pro to disappear from the beta devices of Android 10 Q, and the Honor 20 to be pushed back.

What can Huawei do to get out of it? For the moment, the company seems to be counting on a turnaround, and has Google's support in this regard. However, alternatives are also possible.

As for the OS, Huawei has already developed his own, potentially on an Android AOSP basis. As for the application store, Aptoide seems ready to take up the challenge. The Portuguese site DN Insider was able to meet the executive director of the alternative store who explained the situation.

The latter revealed that Aptoide had already been in contact with the brand in the past to integrate its store into EMUI. They have therefore taken advantage of the recent ban to contact the Chinese manufacturer again, and are currently in discussion with the latter.

However, nothing is being done yet, but Aptoide is an interesting alternative. With more than 900,000 applications and 200 million active users, it is the most used alternative store after the Play Store.

However, Huawei also has its own store: App Gallery. It is therefore difficult to know whether he would really bet on a Portuguese actor, or whether he would try to make his store more attractive. This is currently only an option available to him.
