Huawei denies release of his home OS in June

By  Adeline Belluz 2019-06-05 224 0

A TechRadar source said that Huawei's homemade OS to replace Google's Android would be launched in June. This information has been denied by the Chinese manufacturer.

Update of May 29, 2019: Huawei insisted on denying TechRadar's information that the Chinese brand's in-house OS would be released in June. The manufacturer has indicated that it will not be available until late 2019 or early 2020, as originally planned.

It has been known for some time that Huawei has been developing an alternative OS for its devices. Some of the company's managers had confirmed this to us. Since the sanction imposed by the United States, the Chinese brand no longer has the right to use Android with Google services on its future smartphones.

If the American decision is not reversed quickly, Huawei will have to invest even more seriously in the development of this alternative operating system. And the firm would obviously not waste its time since, according to TechRadar, the in-house OS would be launched in June.

At least that's what a manager of Huawei's Middle East branch quoted by the media says. He explained that the OS had been ready since January 2018 and that it was a "plan B". This speech is consistent with what our own sources had indicated.

Last I heard, the code name of Huawei's in-house solution would be HongMeng OS. The operating system would also be able to run Android applications, but probably not those of Google or other American publishers.

It should be noted that the release period mentioned so far for HongMeng OS was postponed to autumn 2019 or early 2020. We will therefore have to follow all this very closely. It should also be noted that, if the announcement does indeed take place in June, it will probably only concern China in the first instance. The Middle Kingdom is used to AOSP-based OSs that are stripped of Google services.

Finally, even if Huawei is a giant in the sector, creating a strong challenger against Android and iOS is far from being a win-win situation.
