HUAWEI Honor Note 10 vs. Xiaomi Mi Max 3: design features

The first thing to know about both the Honor Note 10 and the Xiaomi Mi Max 3 is that they are phablets. And this means you should get ready for huge screen and generally media driven devices. Both phones come with 6.9 inch plus displays, thin bezels and are very close in size too: 6.94 x 3.44 x 0.31 inches for Mi Max 3 and 6.97 x 3.35 x 0.30 inches for the HUAWEI Honor Note 10. You get all the typical ports and features on the two smartphones.

Aesthetically, the HUAWEI Honor Note 10 may be taking things a bit further than the Mi Max 3. The phone has its front and rear panels made in glass and sports a sturdy aluminum frame.

So, initially, you may be more attracted to the Honor Note 10 — at least visually. But, as we all know, first impressions may be deceptive. So, let's take a look under the hood.

HUAWEI Honor Note 10 vs. Xiaomi Mi Max 3: CPU, RAM and ROM

The HUAWEI Honor Note 10 runs on the octa-core Hisilicon Kirin 970 processor, a high-performance mobile ARM LTE SoC made on a 10 nm process, featuring four Cortex-A73 big cores operating at up to 2.36 GHz along with four Cortex-A53 little cores operating at up to 1.8 GHz.

As for storage and memory, the Honor Note 10 comes in three options: 6GB + 64GB, 6GB + 128GB and 8GB + 128GB  — so you have plenty of choice depending on how much space you need on your phone and your multitasking habits.

Besides, one of the highlights of HUAWEI Honor Note 10 is the GPU Turbo technology, which greatly enhances the gaming performance, bringing you steady and faster gaming experience. So if you are game lovers, the Honor Note 10 is obviously a better option.

The Xiaomi Mi Max 3 runs on the octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 636, a mid-range SoC with eight custom Kryo 260 cores speeding at up to 1.8 GHz. In terms of memory, you get 4GB + 64GB or 6GB + 128GB combos.

So, just looking at the bare specs, the HUAWEI Honor Note 10 does come with more to offer in terms of processing power and gives you more options when it comes to multitasking and storage going all the way up to 8GB of RAM. Thus, if we had to pick a winner for this one — congrats, the HUAWEI Honor Note 10!

HUAWEI Honor Note 10 vs. Xiaomi Mi Max 3: 6.9 inch+ displays

As we've mentioned above, both phones come with huge displays. You get 6.9 inches on the Mi Max 3 and 6.95 inches on the HUAWEI Honor Note 10.

Both displays offer great resolution: 1080 x 2160 pixels for the Mi Max 3 and 1080 x 2220 pixels for the Honor Note 10. The Mi Max 3 comes with an 18:9 ratio and 350 ppi density while the Honor Note 10 sports an 18.5:9 ratio and 355 ppi density. As the screen-to-body ratio, you have 79.8% on the Mi Max 3 and 81.5% on the HUAWEI Honor Note 10.

Breaking it down, there is no significant difference between the two screens. True, the HUAWEI Honor Note 10's display is slightly better (larger screen, slightly higher resolution and body-to-screen ratio, etc.) — but these differences are too small to matter when it comes to you simply enjoying all your phone's screen can do. You will be able to enjoy your media, game play and comfortable web browsing on both phones and the choice in this case may just come down to which phone you prefer visually.

HUAWEI Honor Note 10 vs. Xiaomi Mi Max 3: camera and battery

Cameras have long been on the front end of the decision making when it comes to choosing a smartphone — at least for some of us out there. Thus, what these two phone models have to offer for photography may have a direct impact on your purchasing decision.

The HUAWEI Honor Note 10 sports a dual rear camera setup with a 24-megapixel primary sensor and a 16-megapixel secondary sensor enhances with AIS (artificial image stabilisation) and an LED module. You also have an f/1.8 aperture on both sensors. The rear cam recognizes 8 scenes including indoor and outdoor, green plants, night time and more.

On the front end, you get a 13-megapixel sensor with AI (artificial intelligence) modes and the popular Face Unlock feature.

The Mi Max 3  rear cam features a 12-megapixel primary sensor and a 5-megapixel secondary sensor, both sporting f/1.9 aperture, AI portrait mode and a dual-LED flash. For selfies, you get an 8-megapixel sensor with a f/2.0 aperture, 1.12-micron pixels, Face Unlock and a soft selfie light, which, we must admit, is a really good addition.

There you have it. The HUAWEI Honor Note 10 does come with a stronger camera offering — both in terms of pixels as well as in added features (image stabilization is a big one). So, if you do use your smartphone for photography a lot, this will probably be a major factor to consider.

On the battery side, however, things are pretty much the same. You have a 5500 mAh battery on the Mi Max 3 and a slightly smaller 5000mAh battery on the Honor Note 10.

HUAWEI Honor Note 10 vs. Xiaomi Mi Max 3: pricing and verdict

Now, let's get to the fun part — how much will you need to get a shiny new Mi Max 3 or the HUAWEI Honor Note 10. With the latter coming with a stronger processor and better cameras, you  may expect the Honor Note 10 to be more expensive — and you are right. Here are the details:

● 6GB + 64GB 2799RMB (around $410)

● 6GB + 128GB 3199RMB (around $470)

● 8GB + 128GB 3599RMB (around $428)

What about the Mi Max 3? As it often is with Xiaomi smartphones, the price is always a pleasant surprise:

● 4GB + 64GB: 1699 RMB (around $249)

● 6GB + 128GB: 1999 RMB (around $293)

So, what do we take away from this? The HUAWEI Honor Note 10 is a more powerful smartphone, but the price offering on the Xiaomi Mi Max is hard to beat. You get impressively large screens on both devices — so that's a definite selling point for all the mobile media lovers. And, in the end, the device you go for is a personal choice. Higher specs come at a higher price (in the case of the  is hard to beat) and the Mi Max 3 is a great budget option.
