Huawei Nova 5 Pro vs Honor 20 Pro: design
The Honor 20 Pro is a good-looking phone — to a large extent, thanks to the thought-through rear panel design made using three separate glass layers for a truly impressive visual effect. The phone measures 6.09 x 2.91 x 0.33 inches and is available in two deep colors: Phantom Blue and Phantom Black.
The phone comes with a 6.26-inch LCD screen with a hole-punch camera — so, there is no notch and you get to enjoy the impressive screen-to-body ratio of 91.6%. On the back, there are four vertically placed cameras but no fingerprint sensor — it’s not under the display either — on the Honor 20 Pro, the fingerprint is incorporated in the oversized power button.
The Huawei Nova 5 Pro comes with a 6.39-inch OLED touchscreen display and measures 6.20 x 2.94 x 0.29 inches. The phone’s front camera is placed in a waterdrop notch at the top of the screen and the screen-to-body ratio is approximately 85.1%. The back of the phone is also glass housing four vertical cameras. The fingerprint sensor is hidden under the display on the front. The Nova 5 Pro measures 6.20 x 2.94 x 0.29 inches and comes in a creative selection of gradient shades: Dilemma Forest (Green), Midsummer Purple, Bright Black and Coral Orange.
Huawei Nova 5 Pro vs Honor 20 Pro: cameras
Both smartphones come with quad camera setups on the back. The Honor 20 Pro comes with:
● a 48 MP primary sensor with an f/1.4 aperture + laser/PDAF, OIS
● an 8 MP telephoto lens with an f/2.4 aperture, laser/PDAF, OIS and 3x optical zoom
● a 16 MP ultra wide lens with an f/2.2 aperture
● and a 2 MP dedicated macro lens with an aperture of f/2.4
The main 48 MP lens comes with the same IMX586 sensor as you get on the View 20. The cam sports an impressive f/1.4 aperture, optical image stabilization and artificial intelligence stabilization as well as a nice set of photo features including a 3x optical zoom, macro mode, Super Night Mode, 4K video and A.I. scene recognition.
The selfie camera, as we’ve mentioned above, hides inside the hole-punch screen on the front in the top left corner. It comes with 32 megapixels and offers plenty of detail. However, it does lighten the skin tone quite a bit and you may have a hard time ensuring a more natural look.
The Nova 5 Pro also sports four rear cameras. Here’s what you get:
● a 48 MP primary cam with an f/1.8 aperture and PDAF
● a second 16 MP wide lens with an f/2.2 aperture
● a third 2 MP dedicated macro camera the aperture of f/2.4
● and a 2 MP depth sensor with an f/2.4 aperture.
As the Huawei Nova 5 Pro is very new, very few people have been able to test out the phone’s cameras. On paper, the Nova 5 Pro looks like a very capable camera phone — but we will have to wait and see how it compares to other camera flagships in actual performance.
Huawei Nova 5 Pro vs Honor 20 Pro: what’s inside
The Honor 20 Pro runs on the Kirin 980 processor, Huawei’s high-end chipset also used on the Huawei P30 Pro and the Honor View 20. You get 256GB of storage space paired with 8GB of RAM. On the battery side, the phone comes with a 4,000mAh battery with 22.5W fast charging and can charge to up to 50% in 30 minutes.
The Huawei Nova 5 Pro also uses a 1.8GHz octa-core HiSilicon Kirin 980 processor with two 2.6GHz cores, two 1.92GHz cores and four 1.8GHz cores. The phone is available with 8GB of RAM and either 128 or 256 GB of internal storage. There is a 3,500mAh battery onboard and supports 40W fast charging, which, according to the company, can get the phone to up to 85% in just 30 minutes.
Huawei Nova 5 Pro vs Honor 20 Pro: pricing and verdict
The Huawei Nova 5 Pro kicks off at $430, which seems to be a very good deal for the features onboard. The Honor 20 Pro started off at $670, which basically places the device out the budget category and into the high-end sector. The Honor 20 Pro has been praised for its gaming ability, but you will definitely find better cameras for a smaller price tag. To us, it seems like the Nova 5 Pro comes offers a very good selection of features, including a nice camera set, for much less. Yes, the notch design may seem a bit outdated — but the phone comes in beautiful colors and you definitely get more bang for your buck.
