Huawei P40 and P40 pro: Android operating system, 25W fast charging and Kirin 985 processor

The good news: there are no surprises with the operating system. Huawei has once again made it clear that Hongmen OS is not planned as an alternative to Android, but rather as an IoT operating system - i.e. it is primarily planned for use in industry. For mobile phones and smartphones, the company therefore continues to rely on Android and the cooperation with Google. It is foreseeable that Huawei P40 and P40 pro will come onto the market with Android 10 and will also receive the update to Android 11 in the course of 2020. So you don't have to worry about a new operating system.
It looks like Huawei offers fast charging with 25 watts for the Mate 30 models and so this form of fast battery charging will probably also be available in the Huawei P40 models.
Kirin 985 processor at the heart of the Huawei P40
The processor already has its first details. Huawei is planning a new Kirin 985 processor this year to replace the current Kirin 980. So far the designation Kirin 990 was expected, but the difference to the current models is probably smaller than expected, so this designation was chosen.
The new processor doesn't use a 5nm process at the manufacturer (then the differences would be much bigger), but the 7nm process, which is also used by the current top processors of the competition. Until the launch of the new Huawei P40 models, there will probably be no new generation of these chipsets, so one can assume that the new P40 will be launched on the market with this processor. It is said that the processor already has 5G on board - so the P40 could already be equipped with 5G.
It remains to be seen what performance you can expect from this processor and what innovations Huawei is planning. Allegedly the chipset could already be presented at the IFA in Berlin. This means that the details of the next processor generation could be presented in a few weeks.
How many versions will Huawei P40 offer
Huawei usually relies on two devices and a Lite version for the P series models. But this one has very little in common with the other models and is based on a different technical platform, so it can be neglected.
However, you can be very sure that there will be a Huawei P40 and a Huawei P40 per version again, which will then contain even more functions, especially for the camera. It remains unclear how the company will deal with the 5G issue. Possibly there will also be a Huawei P40 5G version, which will be able to use the 5G networks. Then there would be three models from this series.
Perhaps the company will also be able to integrate 5G directly into the devices, so that both P40 and P40 pro come with 5G support and another model is not necessary. What exactly Huawei's decision will look like, however, is probably not yet clear, and it may simply be too early.
