HUAWEI VR Glass Hands-on Review

By  Joe Horner 2019-10-24 3237 1

Since its release, HUAWEI VR Glass has aroused extensive discussion in the industry, some are satisfied with it, some are not satisfied with it. On October 23, Huawei held a 5G terminal and full scene new product launch, we have down a direct experience of HUAWEI VR Glass. Now, let’s take a look at this HUAWEI VR Glass!

HUAWEI VR Glass Appearance Design

HUAWEI VR Glass looks similar to ordinary glasses, but rich in cool techs. The most impressive thing should be its weight-only 166g.

According to Huawei's official data, the height of the HUAWEI VR Glass glasses is 51.5mm and the thickness of the 26.6mm (the thickness of the front shell to the lens tube) is about 1/3 of the traditional VR head display, and the Huawi VR Glass contains only 166g of mask and exposed cable. Because the product positioning is light and thin, so compared with the traditional PCVR, such as PSVR or Oculus rifts and even the mainstream VR integrated machine such as Oculus Quest and Pico G24K, it is obvious that HUAWEI VR Glass is easier to accept and carry.

HUAWEI VR Glass uses optical coating technology to enhance the surface metal luster on the surface of eyeglasses. At the same time, the material of the mirror uses the same nano-texture processing technology of Mate30, which is the same as that of mobile phones. It can also be seen that Huawei has premeditated the product line of VR+ phones.

HUAWEI VR Glass uses a magnetic soft mask, which has the characteristics of light weight and comfort. With the ergonomic butterfly shape and the encircling mirror leg design, it is more comfortable to wear close to the face. In order to prevent accidents such as special face shapes, Huawei has also added removable elastic straps to it, and is equipped with VR carry-on bags for easy storage.

HUAWEI VR Glass Display Effect

HUAWEI VR Glass uses two separate 2.1inch Fast LCD displays (Fast LCD display has been used in a number of VR all-in-one machine), the resolution of 3K, PPI up to 1058. The ultrashort focal optical module consists of three plastic lenses and a multilayer optical film. The ingenious collocation of the optical film enables the light to fold effectively and improve the light transmittance of the lens. In addition, the glasses have the function of adjusting the virtual image distance and support 0-700 degree refractive adjustment, especially independently. Double semi-open speakers plus double Smart PA blessing, in the sound quality performance will be better.

In the actual viewing experience, the viewing experience of HUAWEI VR Glass is similar to the 4K VR all-in-one machine on the market, and because it is lighter, it can be said to be able to obtain a qualified immersive experience after adapting to the mask.

HUAWEI VR Glass Interaction

HUAWEI VR Glass supports 3DoF and 6DoF positioning interactively, which is a point that many people in the industry do not understand.

In addition, HUAWEI VR Glass supports VR mobile screen projection, you can use the APP on the phone to project the screen with one click, and you can also display two applications in VR glasses at the same time, so that one screen and two uses do not interfere with each other. You can watch movies or chat on WeChat, and you can handle WeChat messages while you are entertaining. HUAWEI VR Glass also supports computer mode, you can use PC VR mode to play some computer VR games.

The phone can also replace the game handle, like the phone full screen gesture to control the HUAWEI VR Glass, from the side of the screen to the center to "return", click on the screen to "OK", and slide up from the bottom of the screen to represent "Home".

Huawei also offers two charging ways for HUAWEI VR Glass. In the first common mode, when HUAWEI VR Glass is connected to a mobile phone or PC, the mobile phone and PC actively power the glasses through a cable. The second type of HUAWEI VR Glass has a Type-C port reserved on the cable while playing and charging while playing, which can power both the glasses and the mobile phone at the same time.

It is worth mentioning that with Huawei mobile phones and HUAWEI WATCH GT2 can also put the sports data directly into the VR field of view, to facilitate users to understand their own movement in a timely manner.

Instead of focusing on the pursuit of strong interaction, HUAWEI VR Glass has chosen a relatively cautious and secure product route based on large-screen viewing (see the current giant screen products on the market). Around the 5G feature of large data volume and low delay, HUAWEI VR Glass with 5G mobile phone can undoubtedly give 5G users who are eager to taste fresh a reason to upgrade in 2020.
