Huawei reportedly invited Chinese technology giants and smartphone manufacturers to participate in tests of his alternative to Android, according to a June 11, 2019 dispatch from the Global Times, a Chinese media. The information would come from an anonymous Chinese telecommunications operator.
Huawei HongMeng OS will be 60% faster than Android
Among the firms invited to Huawei's premises are Chinese Internet giant Tencent, Oppo, Xiaomi or Vivo. Recently, Oppo and Vivo even sent a team of developers to test HongMeng OS, the presumed name of Huawei's OS, in complete secrecy. According to test feedback, this operating system is up to 60% faster than Android.
Are Chinese manufacturers developing a viable alternative to counter the influence of the American giant Google? So far, there is no indication that Xiaomi, Vivo or Oppo really intend to replace Android. Like Huawei since 2012, it is not impossible that some mobile giants may think about a plan B in case of friction with the United States. In any case, the intervention of partners would have allowed Huawei to give a boost to the development of its OS.
According to Global Times, HongMeng OS could be deployed around March 2020 for the launch of the hypothetical Huawei P40. In the meantime, we invite you to take this dispatch with a grain of salt. The information comes from a media close to the Chinese authorities. Could it be a simple announcement effect intended to give Beijing the advantage in its negotiations with Washington? We'll tell you more as soon as possible.
