Intel's 10 nanometer processors were planned for 2016. That's why Intel has reconfirmed once again that the 'Intel Ice Lake' chips arrive this year, specifically in June 2019. This fulfills the promise that would arrive before the end of the year, and even before Christmas.

It had been two years since Intel revealed its 'roadmap' for processors, but in the last conference for investors has shown the expectations of the company with the development of its processors, from the 10 nanometers that this time are ready for mass production as the plans they have in Intel for the 7 nanometers.

Expected 10 nanometer 'Ice Lake' will offer up to 25 hours of autonomy

The new 'Ice Lake' processors represent an important leap in the company, mainly in terms of autonomy, but also in power and connectivity. The 10 nanometers have choked Intel, but the process is already underway and is actually working on its next evolution.

 

It's not clear when we'll see the first notebooks with these 10 nanometre chipsets, but according to Intel data we would have a range of up to 25 hours to compete directly against solutions like Qualcomm's ARM-based solutions.


In terms of connectivity, the 'Ice Lake' processors will have native support for WiFi 6, Thunderbolt 3 and will be ready to work alongside 5G modems.


According to Intel's data, the futurible quad-core Intel i7 will offer twice the graphics performance of the eighth-generation Intel i7, twice the video encoding performance, and up to 3 times better processing in artificial intelligence.


Between 2019 and 2020, Intel expects to offer multiple types of processors based on 'Ice Lake', from its 'U' chips for laptops, a GPU and processors for servers.


Intel's 7 nanometers with 'Xe' architecture will arrive in 2021

More striking is the promise of Intel's 7 nanometers, taking into account all the problems and delays that have occurred with the 10 nanometers. According to the roadmap offered by the manufacturer, by 2021 the 7 nanometer processors will be ready to compete with TSMC's 5 nanometers.


The leap to 7 nanometers will also be the first time Intel will work with EUV, the extreme ultraviolet technology already used by other manufacturers such as Samsung. Compared to the current 10 nanometer process, the density achieved will be double.
