iOS 13 new features: health app, dark mode and more

By  Zim Watson 2019-05-30 573 0

The 2019 WWDC is just around the corner. Less than a month remains until June 3, when the inaugural keynote of the Apple Developer Conference will take place. Mark Gurman has just published for Bloomberg a compilation of all the iOS 13 news he's had access to and which he hopes will be unveiled that day.

The truth is that the article contains a quite extensive list of new features, changes and functions. We are going to try to organize it in two sections, one about changes in apps and the other about changes in the system. Details about Mac Pro and its rumored external screen have also been revealed.

Changes and improvements in apps in iOS 13

The apps that come as standard in iOS 13, codenamed Yukon, are going to undergo a lot of changes and improvements. According to the publication, these are all the new features that this version of iOS awaits us:

▪ Health App redesigned with a main screen that better shows your daily activity. New hearing health section that will collect information on the environmental noise and volume of your helmets. It will also have a menstrual monitoring system.

▪ Reminders App redesigned with a main screen that will show four sections: tasks for today, all tasks, future tasks and important tasks.

▪ Redesigned iBooks App that will encourage readers to read more, showing the preview and a reward system. This app has already been redesigned with iOS 12, so the changes could be minor this time.

▪ Search my friends and Search my iPhone will be a single app, as 9to5Mac advanced. In addition, Apple launches a "tag" that allows you to track the location of lost and found objects.

Changes in iMessage to be able to put a profile image and choose the name that will appear to our contacts. There will be an option to send stickers of Animoji and Memoji.

▪ Apple Maps will improve to have frequent places more easily, as well as to group them and assign them a photo.

▪ Mail will gain the ability to mute individual email threads, block mail from certain contacts, and simplify folder management.

▪ Casa will get enhancements to integrate security cameras and the ability to view historical recordings.

System Enhancements in iOS 13

Apple also wants to improve the overall system experience in this release. According to the information obtained by the publication, they would revolve around the following novelties including some that were postponed last year:

▪ Improved performance and error elimination, continuing with the iOS 12 path.

▪ Changes in multitasking animations and closing apps.

▪ Widgets will look cleaner.

▪ Dark mode based on blacks and greys that can be activated from the Control Center. A feature long awaited by some users.

▪ A keyboard function for dragging your finger between keys, similar to SwiftKey.

▪ Duplicate or extend the Mac screen on an iPad, allowing users to use it to type with the Apple Pencil, display more content, or receive notifications from the Mac.

▪ Improvements in parental controls, such as time limitation of who can be contacted.

▪ Sleep mode that will be integrated with the clock and with which the user will be able to set how long he has slept each day. Gurman points out that it could be incorporated into ▪ future devices that monitor sleep.

▪ The HomePod will be able to recognize different voices for different users, preventing anyone from giving orders.

▪ An improved and more organized sharing menu for photos and links, with suggestions of contacts to share with.

▪ A download manager for Safari as well as a File app that will work better with third-party software.

▪ Better support for hearing aids.

▪ The iPad will have its own ration of enhancements, with changes to the home screen, multitasking, and the ability to have multiple instances of the same app open.
