iPad 7 (2019) vs iPad 6 (2018): the main difference

By  Adan Flannigan 2019-09-18 12491 0

It was an unexpected announcement that Apple made in addition to the iPhone 11 on September 10, 2019: the iPad 7 is a fact. Apple iPad entry-level tablet gets a bigger screen than its predecessor. However, the price has not been drastically increased. More tablet for a little more money. That's good news. However, there are more differences, and not all of them are improvements. We list the most important differences.

iPad 7 (2019) vs iPad 6 (2018)

iPad 7 (2019) vs iPad 6 (2018): larger screen with higher resolution

The size of the screen is the most obvious difference. The iPad 7's screen is 10.2", while its predecessor had a 9.7" screen. The resolution is also higher, namely 2160 x 1620 instead of 2048 x 1536 pixels. The sharpness of the screen, also expressed in the number of pixels per inch, has not increased. The iPad 6 from 2018 and iPad 7 from 2019 have a screen with 264 pixels per inch.

iPad 7 (2019) vs iPad 6 (2018): smart Connector on the edge

The other important improvement is the Smart Connector, which is on the edge of the tablet. This connector can be used to connect a keyboard directly. You don't need a Bluetooth or battery-powered keyboard, the iPad provides connection and power via the Smart Connector. The iPad 6 didn't have this connector at all.

Apple currently uses two variants of the Smart Connector. The iPad Pro has the second generation of the connector, which is located on the back. The first generation is on the edge of the iPad 7 and is not compatible with the second generation. A Smart Keyboard is sold by Apple for $ 159, and is the only accessory that works with this connector.

iPad 7 (2019) vs iPad 6 (2018): bigger and heavier

Although the screen edges are slightly smaller, Apple hasn't been able to make them so small that the larger screen doesn't make for a larger iPad. The dimensions and weight of the tablet have increased slightly. The tablet, on the other hand, has not become thicker.

iPad 7 (2019) vs iPad 6 (2018): touch ID slower

The Touch ID fingerprint sensor in the iPad 7's Home Button is remarkably slower than that of its predecessor. Apple uses the first generation Touch ID sensor, while the second generation is faster. The iPad 6 from 2018 still uses the second generation Touch ID, which works a little faster.

The use of a tablet is different from a smartphone, where you need to authenticate more often. This reduces the disadvantage of a slower sensor, but it sounds like a necessary saving to keep the price down.

iPad 7 (2019) vs iPad 6 (2018): better support for 4G and eSIM

Do you often use your iPad on the go with 4G? In terms of connectivity, the new tablet is making significant progress. It supports 27 bands of Gigabit 4G. The iPad 6 had to do with a maximum of 4G at a maximum of 300 Mbit/s and with a maximum of 22 bands. The 7th generation tablet also supports eSIM, which makes it easier to purchase mobile data packages.

iPad 7 (2019) vs iPad 6 (2018): similarities

There are also many things that have remained unchanged, an overview of the most important characteristics:

● Chip: Apple A10 Fusion.

● Front camera: 1.2 megapixels and 720p video recording.

● Rear camera: 8 megapixels with an aperture of f/2.4 and record video in up to 1040p HD at 30fps.

iPad 7 (2019) vs iPad 6 (2018): Price and availability

In the end, the iPad 7 looks great. It has everything to be a good entry level iPad, even though the price for the entry level model has gone up a bit. Apple charges $329 for the Wi-Fi model with 32GB of storage.
