iPhone 11 Pro and Pro Max vs iPhone Xs and Xs Max: what has changed in a year?
By Sigismondo Eisenhower 2019-09-12 3158 0
In this comparison we will focus on analyzing the evolution between the iPhone Xs and Xs Max announced last year with respect to the recently announced iPhone 11 Pro and Pro Max. Let's see what's changed.
Same style on the front and a rear that has already given (and will give) that talk
Apple changed the design with the iPhone X announced two years ago and today continue to bet on a visual language very similar. The new iPhone 11 Pro and Pro Max have the same style of front: reduced frames, rounded corners and the classic notch crowning the top. But they come in new colours: midnight green, space grey, silver and new gold.
Apple respects the same screen sizes as the previous generation. We are talking about an OLED panel of 5.8 inches and resolution 2.436 x 1.125 for the "compact" models and a panel of 6.5 inches for the Max versions. Here the resolution increases to 2.688 x 1.242 pixels. But even though they look the same on paper, the panel has been renewed and now offers a higher contrast (2,000,000:1) and a brightness of no less than 1,200 nits while reducing energy consumption by 15%. Apple calls these new screens, Super Retina XDR. All displays come with HDR10 and True Tone.
If we go to the back, we'll find more differences. The most obvious is the camera module. We moved from last year's double chamber vertical module to a triple lens square module whose design has been quite controversial in the leaking months. They say that for tastes, colors, but I think it's obvious that the module of the new iPhone 11 Pro is too coarse and takes all the prominence of the rear.
Triple Camera
The dual camera came into the iPhone range some time ago and has remained so until now. The iPhone Xs and Xs Max have the same double camera that combines two 12-megapixel sensors, one with a normal lens and the other with a telephoto lens that allows you to zoom two magnifications.
Multiple lenses have spread across the mobile panorama and having three or even four cameras is already the norm. Apple has not ignored this trend and in their new iPhone 11 Pro they bring us a triple configuration. What for? In addition to the angular lens and the telephoto, they add an ultra wide angle for wider frames. Specifically, it has a focal length of 13 millimeters. It also introduces the new Smart HDR that uses machine learning to improve dynamic range, flash with four LEDs 30% brighter and Deep Fusion for image processing.
Compared to the front camera, there's a resolution jump from 7 megapixels on iPhone Xs to 12 megapixels on the new generation, which also has a wider lens. Along with the photographic sensor we still have the set of sensors needed to activate Face ID, the facial unlocking system that is also used for other applications such as animojis.
More power and battery
With each new generation of iPhone comes a new processor and this year has been the turn of the Apple A13 Bionic. The chip, manufactured using the 7 nanometer process, has six cores, four energy-saving cores and two high-performance cores. It also comes with a neural motor, 8.5 billion transistors and is capable of performing one billion operations per second.
Regarding memory, iPhone Xs arrived with 4 GB of RAM and three versions of capacity: 64, 256 and 512 GB. With the new iPhone 11 Pro and Pro Max, the same configurations are maintained, although at the moment we do not know anything about RAM, a detail that Apple usually keeps with much zeal.
Apple maintains the same memory settings: 64, 256, or 512GB. RAM is a mystery at the moment.
Apple doesn't usually give data about battery capacity either. What they have said is that the new models will offer an increase of 4 hours on the iPhone 11 Pro and 5 hours on the iPhone 11 Pro Max. They are compatible with 18W quick charge and finally bring the compatible charger in the box. By the way, the connector is still Lightning, no USB-C as some rumors said.
Finally, we leave you with the specification table with all the details, including prices that are exactly the same as last year's models.
