Before we compare the two, it's important to briefly discuss them individually. I will start with JJRC H61 first, since it is the "older" model. Although older just by 2 months (May 2018), the manufacturer has already released a newer version, dubbed JJRC H62 Splendor.

JJRC H61 review

It was one of JJRC's first pocket drones, aimed at an on-going trend for portable selfie drones. Priced under $50, JJRC H61 is one of the cheapest portable quads you can find on the market.

JJRC H61 design

One of the most interesting characteristics of H61 is its foldable design. The quadcopter arms can be folded in, thus making it the ideal aircraft to carry around in a backpack or pocket. Unfolded the drone is 15.6 x 16.7 x 2.3cm, and folded it's only 13.5 x 6.5 x 2.3cm. On top of this, H61 is also very lightweight, weighing only 85 grams.

JJRC H61 camera

JJRC H61 has a built-in 720p camera of standard image quality. Don't expect HD quality, as the camera is VGA quality. Although the videos are decent quality, when it comes to taking aerial photos, expect it to have a slightly better image quality. Worthy of sharing your drone selfies on Facebook and Instagram. Did you know you can also transmit Live Video directly to your smartphone? Through the free to download JJRC app, you can connect to H61 via WiFi and watch on real time whatever the on-board camera is filming. The videos and photos are automatically saved on your smartphone (drone uses no SD card).

JJRC H61 features

Besides the already mentioned Live Video capabilities, H61 also features Headless Mode, G-Sensor Control, Altitude Hold, Waypoints Flight Routine, Beauty Mode (for photos), and Optical Position Hold. For a cheap toy drone, H61 certainly packs a wide set of fun and useful features. These will enhance flight experience and assist you in taking selfies.

JJRC H61 battery and flying performance

JJRC H61 is equipped with 3.7V 850mAh LiPo battery. It is not a long-range drone, neither should it be. H61 can only fly as far as 30 meters, which in all honesty is all you need for a pocket toy drone. When it comes to flight time H61 is still able to pull off 8 minutes of flight time per battery.

JJRC H62 Splendor review

JJRC H62 Splendor is JJRC's latest foldable drone. It is one of the best bangs for your buck currently available in the market. It's a significant improvement from the JJRC H61 model, for a higher price.

JJRC H62 Splendor design

JJRC H62 design is the same as the H61. JJRC maintained the same body and foldable characteristics. Unfolded the drone is 15.5 x 16.7 x 2.3cm and folded is 13.5 x 6.5 x 2.3cm. Ideal to carry around in a backpack or pocket.

JJRC H62 Splendor camera

One of the biggest improvements is without a doubt the camera. H62 has a much better image sensor and wide lens, which consequently leads to a much better image quality, both in photos and videos. It's a 720p VGA resolution camera. It also transmits Live Video directly to the pilot's smartphone device via WiFi through a free to download application (available for both Android and iOS). The videos and photos are automatically saved on the smartphone (the drone doesn't use SD card).

JJRC H62 Splendor enhanced features

JJRC H62 features the same motors and battery as its predecessor. It also presents Headless Mode, G-Sensor Control, Altitude Hold, Waypoints Flight Routine, Beauty Mode (for photos), and Optical Position Hold.

However, something new and unique about H62 is the optical Follow Me mode. With JJRC H62 you can target someone on the app and the drone will follow autonomously. A neat feature which isn't very common in low-budget drones. Yet, here it is, enhancing the whole flight experience for JJRC H62.

JJRC H62 specs

In terms of specs, H62 brings the same value to the table as H61. No changes were made to its control range and even the battery. Therefore, H62 also has a 30-meter maximum control range and a flight time of 8 minutes. Exactly the specs you need for a pocket drone.

JJRC H62 VS. H61 – What are the main differences and similarities?

JJRC H62 and H61 are very similar to each other, both use same model of motors, battery, optical flow sensor, and even the body frame. So why is H62 a significant upgrade? Well, mainly due to 2 characteristics that truly make a difference. First, we have the upgraded image sensors and lens. Giving JJRC H62 camera a much better image quality resolution, for both photos and videos. Second, is the Optical Follow Me mode, something that isn't available in H61. The Follow Me Mode allows the drone to target a person and autonomously follow it for a short range.

In terms of price, the JJRC H62 Splendor is $56.99 on GearBest, and the JJRC H61 is $46.99. The only $10 differences will earn you the higher image quality and more enhanced features, so it will be very worthy for you to choose the latest one.

Have a great day fellow drone enthusiast!
