Laser navigation VS visual navigation: which is good for robot vacuum cleaner ?

The laser-guided Robot vacuum cleaner adopts the LDS lidar scanning to determine its position. The laser is fired by high-speed rotation, and then the distance between itself and the obstacle is judged by the reflection time of the obstacle after the laser is fired, so as to judge the relative position and realize positioning.
This Robot vacuum cleaner has the advantage of high positioning accuracy, even in the dark environment, it can also accurately conduct positioning. But it also has two disadvantages: one is the laser radar to frequent rotation, easy to break. Second, it cannot detect high reflectivity objects such as French Windows, French mirrors and vases.
Visual navigation of the Robot vacuum cleaner is to achieve positioning through the camera. A Robot vacuum cleaner equipped with such a positioning system will have a camera on the top, and a complex algorithm enables the robot to position itself by sensing an optical image composed of light points with different brightness. These optical images look different from different angles, and by constantly gathering this information, the robot can position itself on a map it has built to know where it has been scanned and where it needs to be cleaned.
But have you ever thought that in dim or nonluminous environments (such as under beds and cabinets or at night), the robot that adopts only the visual technology to locate its position would fail? This is certainly true if you rely solely on visual positioning, but some responsible manufacturers will design multiple sensing systems for the Robot vacuum cleaner to complement each other.
