Lenovo P8 Tablet: the perfect performance-price ratio

By  Jocelyn Longoria 2017-08-04 8542 136

Considering buying the Lenovo P8? Learn more about the 8 inch tablet, its specs and features in this post.

Released at the end of 2016, the P8 comes with a powerful performance and an affordable price tag. Backed up by Lenovo's great reputation, the tablet is a definite bestseller. Let's dig into the details for more reasons why.

Unique design and appearance

The Lenovo P8 has incorporated a number of typically smartphone-like details into the phone's appearance. The most obvious one is the ultra-narrow frame design. Unlike its predecessors, the Lenovo P8 narrows on the left and right sides, directly increasing the screen occupation ratio, just like an oversized mobile phone.

The tablet's front panel houses an 8-inch display and in the top left corner you will see a front camera and a light sensor.

On the back, you will see Lenovo's logo, hiding the SD card slot. It is worth mentioning that the phone's back panel uses a softer matte metal finish— pleasant to the touch, water resistant and dirt proof in a nice deep blue color. The softer finish ensures that placing the table on your lap will not come with that uncomfortable goosebump feeling.

SDcard slot

On the right, you have the power key and the volume button. The Lenovo P8 deliberately hides its two loudspeakers, placed in the top and bottom of the frame respectively. The dual loudspeakers will be of definite appeal to those picky about the sound quality.

Portability

Its slim shape and light weight make the tablet easily portable. It measures 208 x 123 x 8.8 mm and weighs 330g, as light as a bottle of coke. You can put it in your bag or suitcase and carry it to work whenever you want.

HD display

Lenovo P8 comes with an 8 inch 10-point touch IPS display, providing a razor-sharp 1920 x 1200 quality for the ultimate experience when browsing websites, playing games and watching movies.

Software and performance

Packed with the powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 Octa Core CPU and Android 6.0 operating system, the Lenovo P8 lets you enjoy smooth operation and a stable multitasking experience. Paired with the Adreno 506 GPU, the tablet is great for gaming. 3GB RAM & 16GB ROM provide enough room for your daily needs.

Performance test

We've decided to take a further look and ran Antutu, the authentic Android Benchmarking application to conduct a performance testing and get a better idea of the full potential of the Lenovo P8. Antutu, a testing application, mainly measures the following factors: 3D performance, UX, CPU power, and RAM performance. I have attached a screenshot of Lenovo P8 performance result, indicating that the Lenovo P8 is a medium-low-end tablet.

High-quality dual camera

The Lenovo P8 sports two cameras – a rear 8MP camera and a front 5MP camera — both providing adequate photo quality.

Four distinguishing display modes

The Lenovo P8 has four unique display modes including: Media Mode, Standard Mode, Reading Mode and Kid's Mode — each mode is characterized by a different color performance. When you are watching movies, Media Mode can provide a more beautiful and brighter visual experience. When you are reading books, Reading Mode will automatically reduce the brightness providing a paper-like feel for your eyes. When children are entertaining themselves with the device, the harmful short-wave blue light will be filtered to the utmost for enhanced eye protection. Lenovo specifically made a quick start button at the left bottom of screen for these screen settings so that these modes could be switched on quickly at any time.

Safer online experience for kids

For families, the Lenovo P8's Kid's Mode offers a great solution for children's safe web use. This mode allows parents to create individual profiles for their children and use them to grant/restricts access to certain apps, enable safe browsing, limit the time spent surfing the web and more.

Stunning sound experience

Lastly, it's hard (and unnecessary) to ignore the phone's stereo speakers. After repeated actual audition, Lenovo P8's upper and lower split dual speakers proved to produce a more realistic surround sound and a truly immersive media experience— unattainable for a unilateral speaker.

Wrap up

The Lenovo P8 comes in two versions: one is WiFi-only and the other is 4G-LTE compatible. The both versions are available on Gearbest now. Lenovo P8 is a popular item among our customers with its impressive price-performance ratio. With that said, you should keep in mind that this is not a high-end device. You may find that the tablet is lacking certain functions, especially if you plan to use it professionally. The Lenovo P8 is mostly intended for entertainment: watching movies, gaming and web browsing — and the tablet excels in this role.
