LG G8S ThinQ vs LG G8 ThinQ: LG released a more affordable flagship smartphone version with improved specs

By  Sophia Windsor 2019-07-03 14422 0

LG introduced the LG G8S ThinQ and LG G8 ThinQ at MWC 2019, and it finally launched the LG G8S ThinQ until this week. The LG G8S ThinQ is a top-of-the-line mobile phone that continues to bring Snapdragon 855 processor, large screen and front camera with ToF (time of flight) sensor, but leaves some features out to be sold for a more competitive price in markets. Compared to the LG G8 ThinQ, the LG G8S ThinQ adopts the same Qualcomm's most powerful octa-core chip but leaves some features out.

LG G8S ThinQ vs LG G8 ThinQ: what are the main differences?

As we can see from the specs above, the LG G8S ThinQ comes with some upgrades in main specs but with a lower resolution screen.

First, on the OLED screen: the screen of G8S ThinQ increases from 6.1 to 6.2 inches, but decreases the resolution to Full HD+ (2248×1080 pixels) instead of the Quad HD+ of the most expensive device.

Then, in the cameras, the G8S ThinQ offers better triple rear cameras with 13MP super-wide angle lens, 12MP standard lens and 12MP telephoto lens compared to the dual rear cameras of the LG G8 ThinQ.

Battery wise, LG G8S ThinQ offers larger battery capacity with 3550mAh compared to the 3500mAh of the LG G8 ThinQ.

In addition, LG has also eliminated some functionality on LG G8S ThinQ. Boombox Speaker, which vibrates the OLED screen to deliver more powerful stereo sound and bass, is out of the picture, as are remote speech recognition microphones and 32-bit Quad DAC Hi-Fi to handle high quality headphones.

LG G8S ThinQ vs LG G8 ThinQ: Z Camera

One of the features LG highlights is the Z Camera, which relies on a flight time sensor (ToF) to provide more accurate biometric recognition. In addition to the 3D facial reading, LG says the component is able to read its hand with the Hand ID, which "scans a user's unique circulation pattern with infrared light, making the unlock in the dark as accurate as during the day. According to the manufacturer, palm recognition is safer than digital recognition, which is also present in the device.

Another use for the sensor is Air Motion, which helps users control their smartphone through gestures. Ideal for those who are driving, it allows them to answer or close calls, take screenshots, change apps and increase or decrease the volume.

LG G8S ThinQ vs LG G8 ThinQ: price

The price of the G8S ThinQ has not yet been disclosed. It will be available "as of this month in selected markets in Europe, Latin America, Africa, the Middle East and others," according to LG. In the United States, the most complete brother, G8 ThinQ, was launched for $849, slightly less expensive than the competitor Samsung Galaxy S10 ($899). However, the latest leaks reveal that  the LG G8S ThinQ will be a more affordable version of the LG G8 ThinQ, so it is expected to be sold at lower price.
