Mac Pro 2019 and Pro Display XDR

Announced two years ago to silence the rumble of professional users, the new Mac Pro is finally officialized. And as Apple had suggested in his previous statements, he is putting the past and his controversial predecessor behind him. "Can't we innovate anymore? My ass! " were Phil Schiller's words to announce the Mac Pro 2013 and its cylindrical design.
The Mac Pro 2019 completely revises this design with a modernised remake of the tower known as the "cheese grater" for its handles and perforations. No more strange shapes and graphic cards arranged in a triangle: make way for a modular tower and especially the return of the PCI Express.
The return of an extensible Mac Pro
The new Mac Pro features eight PCI Express slots, two of which juxtapose two slots: a traditional PCI Express slot and an additional slot that provides Thunderbolt support for up to 500 Watts of power. This new MPX architecture allows you to offer Radeon Vega II graphics card options with two graphics chips.
Apple also unveils Afterburner, an ASIC acceleration card dedicated to video, capable of decoding more than 6 billion pixels per second, including 4 Pro Res RAW 8K streams or 12 Pro Res RAW 4K streams.
Mac Pro 2019 processors feature the latest generation of Intel Xeon Wave chips, with configurations ranging from 8 to 28 cores, and support 6 channels of ECC RAM over 12 DIMM slots. Storage starts at 256 GB of SSD for the basic version. To cool all this down, Apple has designed a ventilation system that combines three fans, a blower and a latticework pattern of the housing, which Apple says keeps the unit relatively quiet.
What will not leave you silent, however, is the price of this new Mac Pro: starting at $5,999. How far? How far? This is the question that cannot yet be answered, as the fall release date is still unclear.
Pro Display XDR: a 6K companion display
The Mac Pro 2019 doesn't come alone. Apple also announces its return to the display field with the Pro Display XDR, its first display since the Thunderbolt Display stopped in 2016. The Pro Display XDR boxes in another category. Incorporating a 6K IPS 6K LCD panel with a resolution of 6,016 x 3,384 pixels, the 32-inch display manages HDR with a P3 gamut, 10-bit depth and a contrast ratio of 1,000,000:1.
With a design similar to that of the Mac Pro, the Pro Display XDR features an impressive adjustable stand that makes it easy to attach and remove the screen. And yes, because this stand is not provided. The Pro Display is available for $4,999 in the standard version or $5,999 in the nano-textured matte version. The foot is sold for $999. All this will be with the Mac Pro in the fall.
