MediaTek announces 7nm 5G SoC with Cortex-A77 and Mali-G77

MediaTek has not disclosed all the technical data of its SoC 5G -which will be available in the next few months- although its goal is to be integrated into "the first high-end 5G mobiles" (with MediaTek chipset, it is understood). They will have tests ready for manufacturers in the third quarter of the year and are expected to reach the first commercial devices in early 2020.
7 nm, the latest from ARM and, of course, 5G
At the heart of this SoC 5G is the in-house modem Helio M70, of which we now know a few additional details. It is a modem with multi-mode support (2G, 3G, 4G and 5G), able to reach a download speed of up to 4.7 Gbps and an upload speed of 2.5 Gbps in optimal circumstances. It is prepared for both standalone and non-standalone networks.
As we commented before, not all the technical details have been revealed at the moment, but what is known is that it will be based on the FinFet process of 7 nanometers and will have the latest ARM architectures, presented a few days ago: the Cortex-A77 and the GPU Mali-G77.
Among its benefits will be a new artificial intelligence architecture with a neural processing unit APU 3.0 and support for recording and playback of video 4K at 60 fps, as well as cameras up to 80 megapixels.
We will probably know more details about this SoC during the third quarter of 2019, when the first manufacturing trials are expected to begin. In commercial products it will take a little longer to appear: it won't be until the beginning of 2020.
