MediaTek Dimensity 1000 vs Snapdragon 855 Plus vs Kirin 990 5G: CPU and GPU
The MediaTek Dimensity 1000 is manufactured in 7nm process and uses an octa-core CPU with dual clusters consisting of 4x Cortex A77 with the clock speed of 2.6GHz and 4x Cortex A55 with the clock speed of 2.0GHz, which is a little different than another two 5G chip, as both Snapdragon 855 Plus and Kirin 990 5G adopt triple clusters.
The Snapdragon 855 Plus adopts an octa-core CPU with triple clusters formed by 1x Kryo 485 @2.96 GHz, 3x Kryo 485 @2.42 GHz and 4x Kryo 485 @1.78 GHz.
While the Kirin 990 5G chip also boasts octa-core CPU, which contains 2 x Cortex-A76 cores @2.86GHz, 2x Cortex-A76 cores @2.36GHz and 4x Cortex-A55 cores @1.95GHz.
Through comparison, we can see that the three processors adopt different CPU structures. In addition, the MediaTek Dimensity 1000 uses the latest Cortex A77 cores, while it’s still Cortex-A76 cores on Kirin 990 5G chip. Compared to the Cortex A76, the Cortex A77 offers significant improvement on device performance.
In terms of GPU, the MediaTek Dimensity 1000 uses the latest Mali-G77 MC9 graphics card, which is more advanced than Mali-G76.
MediaTek Dimensity 1000 vs Snapdragon 855 Plus vs Kirin 990 5G: 5G capability and download speed
All the three processors come with 5G network support. However, the MediaTek Dimensity 1000 and Kirin 990 5G chip is equipped with integrated 5G modem, while the Snapdragon 855 Plus is equipped with a separate Snapdragon X50 5G modem. Compared to the separate 5G modem solution, the integrated 5G modem in the chip will perform better in phone’s power efficiency.
In addition, both MediaTek Dimensity 1000 and Kirin 990 5G support dual-mode NSA and SA 5G network, while the Snapdragon 855 Plus only supports NSA 5G network mode. As we know, the NSA is just a transitional form of 5G network, while the SA is the final 5G solution.
For download speed, the MediaTek Dimensity 1000 is capable of up to 4.6 Gbps downloads and 2.5 Gbps uploads over 5G frequencies below 6 GHz, which is much faster than Snapdragon 855 Plus and Kirin 990 5G chip.
MediaTek Dimensity 1000 vs Snapdragon 855 Plus vs Kirin 990 5G: AI performance
The MediaTek Dimensity 1000 also does better than another two processors in AI performance. The MediaTek Dimensity 1000 adopts brand-new APU 3.0 with 6 AI processors (two big cores, three small cores and a single tiny core), which will significantly enhance the AI performance in all aspects of smartphones, such as AI camera, AI assistant, etc.
According to the latest Zurich benchmark test (an authoritative AI performance test), the MediaTek 5G SoC (MediaTek Dimensity 1000) tops the AI performance ranking list with the scores of 56,158 points. While the Kirin 990 5G lags behind the Dimensity 1000 by 3755 points. The Snapdragon 855 Plus is far behind them in AI performance.
MediaTek Dimensity 1000 vs Snapdragon 855 Plus vs Kirin 990 5G: AnTuTu benchmark test
The AnTuTu benchmark test platform had officially published the benchmark score of the MediaTek Dimensity 1000. It shows that the total points of the MediaTek Dimensity 1000 reach 511,363, which is higher than the Snapdragon 855 Plus and Kirin 990 5G.
