Meizu 16th review: fully deserve the title of dream phone
By Linky Johnson 2018-10-26 5711 0
Meizu 16th/Plus has changed the previous practice and carried the contemporary flagship platform, Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor, with a total memory of 6GB. This is really enough. The symmetrical full screen without notch is also different from Meizu and other main android flagships.
The Meizu 16th in our hand is the top matching of 8GB+128GB. The symmetrical full screen design with narrow bezel looks good at the first sight, coupled with the thin and light body design.

Meizu 16th appearance: non-notch design
This year, most of smartphones are designed with a notch screen and the left aligned vertical dual cameras on the back, but the Meizu 16th/Plus is different. In a time of prevailing notch screen, the symmetrical full screen design is courageous and innovative, and it can be even the reference benchmark for the future non-notch screen design. Personally, I like this kind of symmetrical design without notch.
Meizu 16th is paired with a 6-inch full screen with 4 big R angles. The metal frame also conforms to the R Angle curve of the screen. The upper and bottom borders measure 7mm, and the left and right borders measure 1.43mm. The top bezel houses a 20MP front camera, a sensor, a hidden handset and a speaker.
The transition from the screen to the middle frame is very natural. It feels like SAMSUNG Galaxy S8, but the body of Meizu 16th is thinner.
At the bottom, there is a row of speaker holes, and a USB type-c port in the middle, and then a microphone and a 3.5mm audio jack. Although the Meizu 16th keeps the 3.5mm audio jack, it still just measures 7.3mm. That thanks to their paranoid persuit of thin and light design.
On top of that, Meizu 16th is also equipped with the in-screen fingerprint recognition. Although the unlock speed is slower than the mature physical touch fingerprint unlocking, it can meet most of your needs in the daily use.
Meizu 16th performance test: Snapdragon 845 is enough
We can use the "powerful" to describe the Snapdragon 845 processor. The GeekBench4 test data shows that the Meizu 16th is a little bit behind the Sumsung S9+ and OnePlus 6 in the single core performance, but it the score is equal to OnePlus 6, and higher than Sumsung S9+.
In the GPU test, the Meizu 16th performs much better than OnePlus 3T and 5T.
Screen performance: very exellent
The scrren has always been the highlight of Meizu smartphones. The Meizu 16th is paired with a 6-inch AMOLED COF screen with 18:9 screen to body ratio. The screen resolution is 2160 x 1080 pixels with 402 PPI. The screen test shows that Meizu 16th has a small average color difference and a wide color range. The color temperature is between 7200-7300k, which slants cold tone. The brightness can be up to 500cd. The hardware performance is very excellent.
Meizu 16th camera
The camera specs on Meizu 16th is the same as the Meizu 15th. Under the support of Snapdragon 845, will the Meizu 16th has better camera performance? Let's find out.
The Meizu 16th comes with 20MP front camera with f/2.0 aperture, and the 12MP (f/1.8) + 20MP (f/2.6) dual rear cameras.
Under the daytime environment, the pictures shot by Meizu 16th can basically restore the color of the object itself, and well retain the details of the distant and near objects.
In the close shooting, the Meizu 16th camera can well capture the texture and gloss of the close object. But there still needs improvement on the bokeh effect.
The night shooting is also good. Although some details of the objects are missed, it's good. Besides, you can choose to auto/open/close HDR function. It needs a few minutes for finishing shooting after opening the HDR function, but the picture will look better and brighter.
Generally speaking, I am satisfied with the Meizu 16th's camera performance, but there is still room for improvement.
Battery life and charging
The battery capacity of Meizu 16th is 3010mAh, which is 10mAh more than the 3000mAh of the previous generation of Meizu 15th. Under the normal use, you just need to charge it once a day.Besides, the Meizu 16th also supports fast charging.
Bottom line
Meizu 16th/Plus is the new generation flagship produced by Meizu, and it is also a dream phone of pursuing from love. Coming with the unique non-notch design, the powerful flagship performance, the excellent dual rear cameras, and so on. Nevertheless, there is still a large room for improvement, such as the NFC function, wireless charging, and the small battery capacity, etc.
