Navi and Ryzen 3000 specs leaked

Although at Computex there was talk of a maximum of 12 cores at Ryzen 3000, a foil called a 16-core has now appeared in the net. The Ryzen 9 3950X has a turbo speed of 4.7 GHz, but a lower base clock with the same TDP. In addition, there are specifications for the Radeon RX 5700 XT based on Navi.

The Videocardz colleagues picked up an interesting leak one day before the expected presentation of the new navigation generations at the E3. It is supposed to be a slide from the presentation - including some specifications. It shows a Radeon RX 5700 XT with 40 compute units (2,560 shader units), 8 GiByte GDDR6 memory, a boost of up to 1,905 and a base clock of 1,605 MHz.

In addition, a third clock rate is listed here. A so-called game clock should amount to 1.755 MHz. It remains open what this is all about. Is this possibly a typical frequency for gaming or an alternative base clock that can be set via a BIOS switch? This will hopefully be cleared up tomorrow, if the slide is real. The performance is also given as 9.75 TFlops (Max FP32 Compute). Further details, such as memory clock and price, are not included in the foil.

For comparison: The Radeon RX 590, the top model of the current mid-range, achieves a performance of 7.12 TFlops, has 2,304 shader units, clocks with 1,469 or up to 1,545 MHz and also throws 8 GB of memory into the balance, but still according to the GDDR5 standard.

Again with radial fan

On the Computex one remained still relatively vague. The RX 5000 series was the topic, but it wasn't tested down to the last detail. It is well known that RDNA, rather than Graphics Core Next (GCN), forms the architectural substructure. This has enabled performance and efficiency to be significantly increased. In addition, there is the manufacturing advantage of the 7 nm process. However, Navi does not (yet) serve the high-end segment, but is placed in the middle class. AMD sees Navi above the Geforce RTX 2070.

It should also be mentioned that the RX 5700 XT can be seen on the slide. Apparently AMD relies on a radial fan again for the reference model. This has the advantage that the heat is blown directly out of the tower, but such designs are not the most powerful. How loud the design turns out at the end, of course also depends on how much energy the chip swallows and then releases back into the environment. Partner cards are reported to be released in August.

Ryzen 9 3950X has 16 cores and 4.7 GHz Turbo

The colleagues also have interesting news on the subject of Ryzen. Although AMD presented at Computex a 12-core as the highest of the feelings, according to geleakter Folie there is still a 16-core at the start. It bears the name Ryzen 9 3950X, should fit like the Ryzen 9 3900X despite four additional cores still in the TDP budget of 105 watts and with 4.7 GHz the highest turbo clock so far. That would be 100 MHz more than with the Zwölfkerner. However, the base clock should settle 300 MHz lower at 3.5 GHz.

It remains to be seen which price AMD will charge for the 16 cores. The two eight-core cores will cost 329 and 399 dollars, the twelve-core cores will cost 499 euros. Assuming that the jump from 8 to 12 cores costs 100 dollars extra, four more cores could cost another 100 dollars. Manufacturers often have their top models paid for princely as well. 599 dollars would therefore only be a cautious estimate.

Ultimately, of course, it also has to show whether the film is genuine at all. In Cinebench, however, a 16-core based on the Ryzen 3000 series was recently sighted. In addition, the Ryzen 9 3900X uses two instead of just one Zen 2 chip in addition to the I/O die, which is manufactured at Globalfoundries in 14 nm. Theoretically there would be 16 cores, not all of which are active in the 12-core.

It has already been rumored that the 16-core will be saved for a later time, for example in case Intel adds more. The release is now preferable, but seems a bit strange. Possibly the presentation of the Ryzen 9 3950X - the authenticity of the slide is not confirmed - also runs under "later this year" and only plays a role at the edge of the alleged presentation. One can definitely remain tense.
