New NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060, 2070 and 2080 may be faster and cheaper

By  Adeline Belluz 2019-06-08 809 0

The speculation about the "super" teaser continues unabated. Now the website Tweaktown wants to know that Nvidia reissues the Geforce RTX 2060, 2070 and 2080 with faster memory and presents them at the E3 in mid-June. Another website also offers the prospect of significant price reductions.

The title of the trailer published by Nvidia in the run-up to Computex continues to fuel speculation about new Geforces. "Something super is coming..." referred, as it had sounded from the bush radio, a few days ago to new editions of the Geforce RTX 2070 and 2080. However, according to information on the Tweaktown website, there is also another incarnation of the RTX 2060. All three will offer faster GDDR6 memory and will actually be presented at the E3 - just right to drive AMD into the parade.

A new edition of the Geforce RTX 2080 Ti is not planned, because it should already have enough power. What the cards should be called, however, the colleagues did not find out. It would be obvious to give the cards the Ti abbreviation. RTX 2060 Ti and RTX 2070 Ti would still be available as names, but with the faster RTX 2080 the marketing department would have to be creative. The question also arises as to whether the new cards will replace the existing portfolio or just complement it.

Price cut of 100 dollars in space

WCCF-Tech even wants to get wind of the fact that the new pixel accelerators will be much cheaper to sell. The RRP of the RTX 2060 "Super", the RTX 2070 "Super" and the RTX 2080 "Super" is 100 dollars below the current portfolio - consequently at 249, 399 and 599 US dollars. The savings are also possible because TSMC now has a much better grip on the underlying FinFET process.

Should the rumours prove true, the intention behind it is clear. AMD unveils its RX-5000 series at the E3 under the code name Navi. It's said that the RTX 2070 can take it on for little money - and possibly poach it within range of the RTX 2080. Nvidia will undoubtedly have that on the radar.
