Nvidia Shield TV: the new model will be optimized for Google Stadia

By  Fields Corrielus 2019-06-22 1694 1

Nvidia Shield TV will get a new version, and this one would be specially designed to integrate the Google Stadia cloud gaming service. The Android TV box would also benefit from a new controller and a new remote control. Android 9 Pie would be on board, while the SoC Tegra X1 would be eligible for an upgrade.

For several months now, we have been talking about the upcoming release of a new version of the Nvidia Shield TV. Citing a source close to the file, Digital Fix provides new information on this new box model, stating in particular that it will focus on the Google Stadia experience. No more details about this at the moment, but Shield owners may not need to buy Chromecast to stream video games to their TV via the Stadia platform. This would mean that Nvidia accepts a competitor to its GeForce Now on its own box, even if the proposal is not quite the same.

The media also confirms the statements of a previous report, which claimed that the Nvidia Shield would be entitled to a new controller and a new remote control. There would be a Shield pack without controller, sold cheaper for users who have already purchased a Google Stadia controller available for 69 euros. So it really seems that the product is designed for Stadia, and we can expect the announcement of a partnership between Google and Nvidia soon. With why not a month of Stadia Pro offered for the purchase of the Android TV box or something like that?

The new Nvidia Shield TV would feature Android 9 Pie natively. Currently, all versions of the box can be upgraded to Android 8.0 Oreo. We are also expecting a revamped SoC Tegra X1, a little more efficient than the component currently in use, the same since 2015. No leakage on the price of the device at the moment. The release date is estimated at the end of 2019, probably at the same time or shortly after the launch of Google Stadia in November.
