OnePlus 6T camera review: excellent night view photography

OnePlus 6T: design

First of all, I briefly introduce its whole design. OnePlus 6T has 6.41-inch AMOLED screen, and the screen is teardrop notch display with high screen ratio — 19.5:9. This change means I have a broader experience visually whether I am browsing photos or playing games. Together with OnePlus 6T’s AI algorithm, the screen brightness can be automatically adjusted. When I read an article,the screen brightness will be adjusted automatically, which can relieve the fatigue of my eyes.

OnePlus 6T cancels the fingerprint recognition in the back of the phone, which makes the phone look more complete. According to the official website, the back is designed with 3D glass and 6 layers of optical coating, which means a better feel. Although you can get a snap-on case for free when you order it, you need to give up the snap-on case if you want a more comfortable feel.

OnePlus 6T: camera performance

The quality of photo imaging is also an important reason for me to choose this mobile phone. Nwadays, dual camera has become the standard configuration of mobile phones. OnePlus 6T is not an exception. It’s rear camera adopts a combination of 16 MP and 20 MP. Their apertures are both f/1.7, and optical anti-vibration is also supported.  Larger light-sensing area brings better photos. The professional mode also lets me get the diversity and playability of taking photos.

 Next I simply talk about experience of taking photos by OnePlus 6T’s camera.

Open the camera and there are four main functions to choose from: recording videos, taking photos, taking a photo of portrait and night view mode. Click the arrow above the “taking photo” button then you can open an interface including professional mode, delay, panorama, slow motion and setting button.

In the portrait mode, after comparing with normal mode, I found that the periphery of the subject in the portrait mode is blurred, and the details of photo are well processed.

When you recording a video, OnePlus 6T can shoot 60 frames of 4k ultra clear video together with optical and electronic anti-vibration, which is completely enough for me in recording my daily life. However, if you match the stabilizer, you will be able to easily shoot a more stable video. In the video I shot, it is not difficult to find that the autofocus function of OnePlus 6T is also very good.

Night view mode is one of the biggest features of this phone. It is also the main reason why I bought OnePlus 6T.

OnePlus 6T’s night view mode is taking photos by long exposure and algorithmic synthesis, which ultimately gives you an excellent night view photo. Therefore, we need to carry the phone stably for 1~2 seconds when we take a photo. When I take a photo in night view mode, it takes 4~5 seconds around to get a well taken photo. (A good photo is worth waiting for, isn't it?) In my test I found that stronger the light is, shorter you need to wait.

I know that OnePlus 6T’s night view mode improves the quality of imaging, but I want to know clearer details, so I used normal mode and night view mode for comparison. After the comparison, I found that when you take photos in strong light with night view mode, the details of dark part are well processed; the control of noise is good; the photo is clear; the color is bright and the revivification degree is high. In normal mode, the details are processed not as good as that in night view mode. The photo is clear, but not as good as that in night view mode when take photos in strong light.

In general, I chose this phone because of the night view mode and it didn't disappoint me. At the very least, it does well in all ways it can. I got a good experience when recording videos, which really surprises me. The shooting noise is also well controlled. The details in strong light are not bad, and the loss of detail is within my acceptable range. It has not only achieved my expected results, but also given me more in taking photos.

OnePlus 6T: other specs

As for the other aspects of OnePlus 6T, it has fast charging power adapter and 3700 mAh capacity battery. There is no problem to use it for a whole day in medium intensity.
